In a dilemma, need some advice...
I drive a slightly modded 99 SS. Bolt ons, and a little shot of nitrous on a good tune. #'s are in the sig. The car has 98k on it, and I'm thinking about selling it to get a C5 vette. I'm not looking for a drag car, just a car that will see the track a few times a year, and see the streets on the weekend. What future plans for the SS were, moser 9, 408 with a bigger shot of nitrous. I want to keep full interior, and i'd like to have a ten second street car. If i sold the SS, I would do the same mods to the C5 other then the rear end. Most of everything i read about the C5's tells me the rearend in those cars are pretty strong.
A little help from those who have owned both would be greatly appreciated. Also any other suggestions would be great too!

I'd keep the SS. I'm not a huge fan of C5s; they're ok, but I like the F-bodies better appearance wise. On the other hand, if you could make the step up to a C6....well that's a whole different story. I love the C6.

Keep the SS and buy a nice DD. Honda, or whatever else tickles your fancy. Save on gas, and have a fun toy you already own. I love vettes, but it's way "cooler" to me to have a faster camaro that isn't suppose to be as fast as a vette. Plus all you'd be doing is getting a car that's almost the same, but for more money. I guess it just depends if you want to have the vette status.

I would keep the SS...They money that you get from sellin it compared to the price of a used vette is probably gunna be about half...So you are gunna be out the difference on that...Plus insurance is going to be more with the vette...The performance parts minus engine mods(exhaust, suspension, intake etc.) are decently more too...
If money is the issue I say screw the vette and mod the SS...Plus, IMO I think vettes draw to much attention...Either choice you make isnt bad, but I think in the long run you will save a lot more money with keepin the SS...

Vette = IRS. No solid axle like the F-body.

i'm in somewhat of the same decision, sell the stock t/a and buy a stock vette and prob. keep it stock. or mod the t/a. I already have an old DD, i think ima mod the ta myself. not 100% yet so this thread helps me too.

I voted keep the SS also. I agree that the money you loose selling the SS and upgrading to vette would be better spent on speed parts 4 the SS. Camaros are great because of bang 4 the buck.

I voted for the Corvette. No offense to the F-body but a Vette is a status symbol. Even Bill Paxton would tell ya:
"The Vette gets em wet"
I'm a huge Trans Am fan but I would have bought a Vette at the time if I had the money. Now that I have the money I am sticking with the Formula because I want to have a car payment free drag racing machine and the F-body is perfect for that.
If you can afford it then get the Corvette. But just be realistic on whether or not you can afford it. Look at the payment, insurance and gas and see if it really fits in your budget. Because you all ready know the SS is in the budget.
Good luck either way.

wow thanks for all the replies. sounds like the ss is the winner here. so the quest continues on the SS I was just promoted and that brought about getting a vette. Everyone has made good points, and the SS will stay in this garage for now. wish me luck
