I owned one for a few years. Great cars. Just make sure you do the usual, change sparks, oil, tires and such. Only major problem I had was a spark or two going bad prematuraly.
They are not immune from the old LS1 faults though... Body stress "dimples", window motors, and everything else other than engine related that people complain about on this board...

Keep your LT1. You will wind up kicking yourself for getting into a V6. If I were you I would shop around for used LT1 pullout with less than 100K on it as a spare. Honestly I am in the same boat with my 93 LT1(180K miles), and I plan on running it til it snaps or spins something, then I'll bite the bullet.

BS starz the gas mileage would not be even close, my lt1 on all highway trips only registered 23 or so, and i know several people with 3.8 f-bodys that pull 28+highway not to mention you would never dip below 21 in the city, not to mention you only need to use 87 octane in the 3.8 and it is not absolutely necessary to use premium in the lt1 but it is much better for it.

With that said yea the 3.8's are great motors I just just trying to see why you would wanna switch and your reasoning is understandable

It all depends... but my point was that its not going to be night and day difference as if he got a hyrbrid or something. I can understand if you want something newer/less miles thats reasonable, I know being in college IF something breaks you are worried that you dont have the funds to fix it, so just get something newer/ less miles and dont worry about it.

There like any other GM product of that age, the same stuff is going to go out as any other, if you get one thats well taken care of should be fine. Their good cars, most people who buy them used them to commute not really race so finding a good clean stock one isnt an issue

I loved my v6 till some *** hat in a ford rear ended it. I thought I would get a lot worse mpg with the LS1, but have been surprised. I got about 28mpg in the 3800 and get about 26mpg in the T/A. My 2002 firebird came with the Y87 package, and seemed to have decent acceleration, though I have never driven any other firebird/camaro v6 to compare.

mine cranks out 360rwhp and i boost it everyday. Been very reliable so far besides my tranny going cause the access power. But yah, just change plugs, wires and oil change and you will never have a problem.

Y87 is the best package to get it comes with all the V-8 suspension and steering but not the motor. It has a lim. rear and dual exhaust which didnt sound that bad from the factory
