Default Tell me who is right.

A few weeks ago my dad drove my car to get the front end checked out for me. The front end was jumping a little turns out it just needed an alignment, but while it was there they broke both my fender tabs. The plastic actually split right where it connects. We got estimates and they agreed to pay. It is going to be about $1700. We are just gonna put screws through the bottom and keep the money. He thinks we should split it because if it wasnt for him i wouldnt be getting anything. I think i should get it and it should go toward paying off my car. What do u guys think?

I think it's important that we know who makes payments on the car, and who pays the insurance on the car. Then you'll have your answer.

I make the payments and have not missed one and i pay the insurance. It is in his name to keep the insurance low and he helped me get a low rate on the loan, but i dont think that matters since i pay for everything.

Well if your father is concerned for his and your credit he should agree that you should use the 1700 to pay the payments. I'd ask him if he'd agree to you using the money toward paying off the car and that only. It seems to be the responsible thing to do in this situation.

Hell, thats a sweet deal either way. I removed my fender tabs myself cause they were ugly. I think they were the most useless thing on the car.

I would use the money to fix the fender tabs......but since you dont want to fix it then i think you should get the money to pay for the car.

Best thing to do with the money is send it to me. I'll use it for something worth while.

keep a couple of hundreds, and give the rest to him!!! how much have you cost him and he's never asked for anything, also the liability that he is taking for you with his name on everything is priceless, if you wreck or kill someone they will definately take all he's got . almost experienced ,got lucky....

WTF? My dad wouldn't have even asked! Keep it unless your dad has some sort of gambling debts or something. It's your car, why the hell would he get one cent?!

I was thinkin the same thing but in a way its wrong on both ends, Your not using the money for what its suppost to be used for, with that said your pretty much gettin $1700 for doing NOTHING and your car isnt bad enough to fix it so I dont think its unreasonable for him to ask for some of your FREE money if he could use it. But yea just think about all he's done for you, do you pay rent/utilities/etc. and everything? If you fully support yourself 100% then yea I would fight for it, but if he helps you out it might not hurt to share and show some appreciation

Yes everything i have said is true cuz i am going to show him this to help prove im right. My whole family thinks i should get it. No i dont support myself completely but i do more than a lot of high school kids. I pay for my gas, insurance, my car and other things. I am going to college in the fall and would rather not work first semester that money would allow me to have money for payments during my first semester as I get used to the living on campus and learn my way around. Thanks for all the opinions guys. That isnt too bad an idea waterbugg.
