I'm sure this is asked a lot, and I apologize if it is.

I have a '99 A4 GU5 Trans Am and every once in a while I start thinking about how I'd enjoy an M6 car more. This car is my daily driver and sees the track probably 2-3 times a summer. My only real concern is the crappy stock 10-bolt being more prone to breaking with an M6 car than an A4.


My problem with switching is that my current TA was a 1-owner car when I bought it, garaged and driven only summers. It currently has 58,500 miles on it and nothing to speak of is wrong with it. A few cosmetic blemishes but nothing bad. So I'm just not sure if I'd be able to find one as nice as what I already have. Has anybody sold an A4 LS1 car just to buy a (nearly) identical M6 car? Or vice versa for that matter? Did you find it was worth the hassle of selling your car and trying to find another one?

^ I agree. I used to really want an m6 and thought about selling or trading but eventually realized it was pretty ridiculous and flat out not worth it. I love manual cars but after much timing thinking about what I want from it, I'm thinking I'll stick with the auto.

Besides that, I got a good deal on my car in extremely mint condition. This took over a year to find. I'm not going a year without an f-body/LS1.

You can always get new gears and a stall...I haven't yet but it's supposed to be a big, fun difference.

I have a stalled a4 and I love every minute of it. I would only get a m6 if I had money for a 3rd car cause I would not get rid of what I have. Basically its not worth it.

A conversion is another possibility. I found a guy on here that wanted a six speed and i wanted an auto. We did any even trade, and i paid $700 for the entire install. You could potentially be driving an m6 for well under a grand and keep your car.

I'd keep the auto or perhaps do the conversion.

Sometimes I would like an A4 instead of my M6.

BTW: The 6 speed conversion isn't too bad. I did it on my LT1 Camaro without any major issues. Good luck

i love stickshift, it honestly is my favorite, but auto for this car is pretty sweet to, maybe a tad boring with a stock tranny but when you got a performance stall and tranny its a whole other story, stay auto, go stick if you want to road race all day or stay awake when driving...

Shortly after I put a 3500 stall in my '00 WS6, I drove a friends M6 '00 Z28. Frankly, I think the stalled auto is much more fun than the M6. Just my opinion.

Either way, I'd look into doing a conversion before going through the process of selling and buying another one.

I was in your EXACT situation a few yrs ago. I had been looking for a black ws6 m6 for quite a while with no luck, when I stumbled onto a 01 pewter a4 with 13k on it. I bought it and the modding began. Before I had done anything major to it, I started thinking about how I really wanted a 6 speed. I posted threads about conversions, contemplated selling the car, etc. I wound up giving a converter a chance, then adding a 225 cam, and nitrous. The car went 11.20s@120+ on Nitto DRs, FULL weight, even the back seats, and 100% stock suspension! It wasnt enough...........

A few months later I ran across a MINT 02 WS6 M6 with 25k on it, same mileage as my car. It was stock as a rock, paper filter, and all, not even tinted windows. After stripping down my a4 car of everything besides the cam, converter, and exhaust, I let it go to get my current ride. NO regrets! There's not a day that I have had even the SLIGHTEST bit of regret of my choice. BTW, I had the first car for 1yr 8 months, and my current ride I have had for almost 2.5 yrs, and I love it more than ever.

I have a full reverse manualy valve body and so does mine ...

Also IMO i would just save up your money and put some money down on an M6 so you can have the best of both worlds

i've drove both, and honestly, i love both. Yea M6's feel badass,but i dont think its worth the hassel unless you are THAT bored of your car

I've been in the same boat as you for a long time, and have been waiting for someone to find to swap an M6, meanwhile my A4 car is at the tranny shop getting it built for the N2O. Lol. Still, even if I found an M6 to swap next week just after getting my tranny done I'd do it. They are just more fun to me, yes I love my stalled auto, and more so now I have a DD, but one thing a stalled auto lacks it part throttle quickness. It simply doesn't have it, its either granny it or mash it, no in between. If I were you I wouldn't really sell unless you could trade straight across, I'd trade. Here the going rate for labor on a swap (the only way I would do it would be find someone to trade, way too much $$ if I bought all the parts), is $1100.

I would just do the conversion, Dont trade your auto parts just buy the M6 parts, then if you wanna switch back you could, and you could always sell the M6 parts and probally get most of your money back and essentially have the same car
