I am looking at a 2002 SOM Formula at a local dealer that I buy cars from, after searching for a while now I came up WS9 = formula code but all T/as have them so I should look for the W66 code to make sure its a real formula. I found some of the build info on other cars but does anybody know if a 2002 SOM Formula is rare or not? This car has t-tops, leather, automatic, and has some mods on it thanks in advance!

From what I can tell it has
Painted Throttle Body, Painted Valve Covers, Long Tubes, 3" ORY, 3" Cut-out, Flowmaster muffler w/ stock tips, Narrowband A/F Gauge(Will take off), Carbon Fiber Shifter (Would take off), Black formula/bird/pontiac overlays, black calipers w/ orange formula stickers, new tires. Looks overall like a nice car what do you guys think?

Don't know how to tell but i can definatley say SOM is a rare color on these cars. How many SOM f-body's are in your area that you have seen?

If it was a firehawk it would definitely be rare but still a rare color for a formula . I love that color.

well your car is 1 of 51 formula coupes built in 02 in SOM w/o ram air... the breakdown of how many were 6sp or auto i cant find... nor can i find the breakdown of which had TC.

Generally, half had TC and half had 6sp.. total production of all formula coupes in 02 was 901..

How rare? They built over 1,200,000 Camry's last year. My SOM Camaro SS is one of 234 in 01. All the SOM's are rare! Dealers ordered Red and Black.

and pewter (in all three shades of it ) also ken i think me and you are the only SOM SS's on here in 01 with the M6 and T-tops

If you like formulas get it! I test drove that car...(North Aurroa auto mall right?) and it HAULS ***!! I bet the previous owner took the lid and any other parts he could make a quick buck on before he traded it in. It also has speed inc. stickers under the hood so maybe take it there if you buy it and see if they know the history of it...
It has trans work done on it for sure... maybe even a small stall. I believe they wanted 15K for it but do this:

Offer them 14K....Tell them that you are moving out of state sometime in the future and you will have to put cats on it since they are missing and that will cost big $$$

Does anyone know if it is illegal for a dealer to sell a car knowing that it has no cats on it???


But with that said.....Make a move on it because as modded as it is.....it still overall is a clean car...just take out that generic looking a/f gauge that thing bothered me....nice car like that with a tacky gauge

honestly i dont think ive ever seen a SOM ls1 ever! and come to think about it, thats really strang lol

buy the car, it wont disapoint you, nor will the resale value.

I don't like the shifter but the car is rare as hell! Also of all the F-Bodies Camaro's,V6 Firebirds,and Trans Am's the Formula is the rarest! Also the cleanest looking i'd say! Go for it if you didn't already!

I used to work at a GM dealer....if you know the car isn't emissions compliant and you don't disclose it to the customer = huge fine (up to $10,000) if they are to complain to the better business bureau, or the dealer ends up eating the cost to make it pass.

Being both a Formula and SOM, rare as these cars go. Certainly a stand-out car. Wouldn't think twice about it if you like the car and the price.
