Default Oil Question

I have seen lots and lots of threads on oil and what type to use. It seems like most guys are reccommending to use 0w40 rather than the 10w30 the factor reccommends. is that ok to use is texas with this f-ing heat??? i live in san antonio and use my car as a daily driver. My only upgrades are lt's, X=pipe, lid and k&n if that makes a diff. Thanx for any input

Do a search. I use Castrol Syntec GC 0/30, and an AC filter with 6 quarts.

0w40 is thicker than any 10w30, so it should be even better in the summer heat. Don't let the 0w fool you, that just means it flows like a 0 weight oil in extremely cold winter temps (which is a good thing). In the summer, the 0w40 will still be thicker than 10w30.

So I'm guessing you went from M1 0W40 to M1 5W40? I've thought about making that switch as well but the 5w40 is much harder to find around my area.

I'm confused about what you mean by 'sludge'? Can you explain further?

What's German Castrol? And why is it any different from regular Castrol other than I'm assuming it's made in Germany.

I was using RP 10-30 and noticed a (tick), so i changed and went with the German 0-30 and its ever louder. So i dont know. I know the LS1 is prone to noise but it just bugs me.

Most Autozones recently quit carrying it. Can still get it from some online vendors like WS6 Store. http://theoildrop.server101.com/foru...e=0#Post836448

What do you guys think of the mobil 1 15w-50 for summer? I used it in my GTP for years and am thinking about doing the same for the LS1. GTP never seemed to mind it...
