like it says, ive tried a long rod to press the unlock switch but its not working, locking only works, i dont want to get AAA or anything just wanna try to do this at home, does pressing the hatch switch open it up? my little red light on the dash is blinking aswell

Yeah, using a rod to unlock will not work as it is a safety measure against break ins.

I had to learn that little trick the hard way. Best part was it was after I took my g/f out for dinner on her b-day. She was pissed to say the least.

Tape it behind your license plate with duck tape. Noone will look there and in a pinch you can get to it with a quarter.
