Default Would You Buy a Supercharged Trans Am?

There is a 98 WS6 Trans Am that just popped up in the local trader. I'll give you the details. It has about 55,000 miles on it, with 19" wheels. The ad doesn't specify the transmission. He says the supercharger was professionally installed and has all of the bills. Also, he says it's about 520hp. Is he full of bs? I'm currently trying to sell my Vette because I need more room, so I'll be looking for a Trans Am. The only thing that concerns me is that it may have been driven hard. I could be wrong. Would you guys buy a supercharged car?

Here's a pic...it looks really nice!

nice, even if it was driven hard its an LS1 it can handle it, as long as it was well maintained and takin care of it might be fine...give it a drive see if it feels good, have a mechanic look at it and verify

Yeah, that's a good idea. I'll probably bring my Uncle. He's been a mechanic for close to 20 years. The guy says it's in mint shape.

OMG i love SGMthat is a SWEET car. If he can show who installed the S/C and has receipts i'f say go for it. I'd take a modded car if it looked to be installed right. good luck and nice find...

it looks nice. . . the only problem is it looks like you are going to need to factor in the price of new wheels. But it is still a rare color and is supercharged. . . .sweeet

Aren't they all? When people say mint, I always give them the benefit of the doubt and figure the car cannot be completely trashed, though they sometimes still are. Mint, yeh whatever. I looked at a couple of "mint" cars.

Ok, back on topic. I personally would consider buying a SC'ed car. I would inspect it carefully, require service/mod documentation, and scrutinize the owner very carefully. Good luck.

Oh I've been there before! Dealers are the worst, from my experiences anyway. What a hassle eh? Anyway, the guy is asking $17,800 for the car.

<quote>says it's about 520hp</quote>
Are these numbers realistic? I guess it depends how much boost you are running?

^Yours looks like Medium Gulf Blue Metallic. If so then yeah it's pretty rare but still not as rare as the sport gold metallic. it's ULTRA rare. I think it's the most rare but not 100%

You can always buy it and put it back to stock. Sell the car and the modded parts and make a killing.

But you never know til you test drive it. Could be barely running with damage or could be mint like he said.

Id go for it, but be prepared for the worst, such as if the engine blows make sure your ready to replace it, it might not be likely but its still a possibility with mods like that, and people dont instal a supercharger to drive it like a grandma

I drove like 4 hours to look at this truck that was "mint". Stains everywhere, nasty, nasty. I would have offered half of what he wanted. Dick wasted 10 hours of my life

Man I would go for it yet first check it and verify if everything is allright. Remember that guy will not have many buyers so use that to your advantage and try droping the price 1k.

and to answer your question, yes, a supercharged ls1 would be putting down a ballpark of 500hp
