Default I Hate Slp Headers!!!!

So a little back round for the story, i work at Oil Changers. Its a quick lube obviously. So i was at work today and a white 00 Z28 convertible rolled into one of the bays. So i ended up working on the car, i pop the hood and it has the basic bolt ons. LS6 intake and lid. Then i notice it has headers,so i start doing the whole song and dance with talking to the customer and figuring out what im servicing on the car. Then the pit tech ( guy who works on the bottom of the car) calls up that he cant get the oil filter off. So i go downstairs and find that the car has Long tube headers. And to make it worse they were SLP Long Tubes. So i finally manage to get the oil filter off with some filter pliers. Then i get the brand new filter and try to put it on, and i have to shove it in to place, rubbing all over the header. So i try to thread the filter and to make everything worse the headers pushed the oil filter just enough to make it to were it was cross threading. So i had to take the big ratchet and pry the header away from the engine to be able to get the oil filter on straight. Not to mention i couldn't fit a socket wrench over the drain plug because of the headers, i had to use a wrench. So to make a long story short i almost threw up when i saw the underneath of this car, it was leaking from the oil pan gasket and trans pan. Also the guy was using 5w50 castrol syn oil with syn lucas oil stabilizer. Sorry for the rant, just another SLP horror story and a poor F Body with 60K in worse shape than my 105k fbody.

I'd never waste a penny on SLP headers.Maybe some good gains but they arent worth the clearance issues.
I went with some Royal Purple 10w40 with a k&n oil filter this time around.
Ever use it?

I have 25k miles (and 5 years) on my SLP LTs. No problems whatsoever. I've probably scraped them 5 times. I have heard a lot of horror stories, but I've not experienced a single one.

Ya i have heard a ton of bad things about them, im just gonna go pacesetter with my car i think. And i used royal purple a while ago and it is great oil, but now i use ams oil and im even more happy. As far as K&N goes their oil filters i have heard they are junk, i love the Ams oil EAO oil filters.

I've got SLP LT's goin on mine, so we'll see. I don't plan on lowering it, and I've had lowered cars before, so I shouldn't have much of a clearance problems. ..Hope not anyway. ...and this is the first I've heard of them creating problems for changing the oil.

ummmmm, not sure what you were doing, but i don't have the slightest problem changing the oil in mine w/ slp lt's. No harder than it was with stock manifolds.

I can't even tell you how many times I've scraped mine. Can't argue with the power gain though. One of them, I think the passenger side, has a completely flat part.

Well considering I did the oil change in my driveway with the car on jackstands this weekend in about 15 minutes with slp headers on the car and had no problems like this. He may have had a poor fitting set. Mine has no clearance issues and works fine. I also have never scraped them for any reason, maybe if people didn't take speed bumps and steep driveways at 15mph plus these headers would have a better rep.

Ya same here. Having my slp lt makes my oil changes the same if not easier than when it was stock. These headers get a bad rep but i've had them for years on my Z with absolutely no issues...

I have worked on a few of my buddies cars with slp longtubes and never had an issue with an oil change. My guess is that he hit something with them and bent the primaries or something along those lines so that they were in the way. Still I wouldnt put them on my car simply because they do hang so low. Pacesetters all the way.

I've never had any problems changing the oil with mine. I've bottomed out a few times, but no problems like your talking about.

The filter only needs to be hand-tightened. That's problem #1 if you ask me. My oil filter doesn't even come close to my SLP headers. I'm also one of those people that do my own oil changes on jackstands.

lol, that's probably why he took it somewhere to have the oil changed.

ya that header must have been bent or something, i have SLP LTs with my fair share of dents and scrapes, but so far the only problem except that and clearance is the exhaust leaks.

Oil Changes are always going to be harder with any type of long tubes really when compared with stock.
