I would say you are right about the Rotella. It's just group 3 but has many cleaning agents since it's a diesel oil. You know how dirty diesel engines get. About the Mobil 1, I am not aware of the basestock change. I've never read anything about that or anyone hating the oil.

I have seen a lot of people hating on mobile 1 with some people haveing some backing. I know Patman knows a lot about oil, and I know you can't beat lab tests. I know that they are on here but don't know where exactly.

I will try to find it and report back.

I can't find german castrol anywhere near by over here. The closest autozone is a 20 min drive and they didn't even have it last time I checked.

Question for the guys who use SuperTech and Rotella, which weight would you recommend for a warm/hot climate?

Thx!

I've always run Valvoline 5w30 in ALL of my cars with no issues from any. Always comes out a slightly darker amber than it goes in. I won't run anything else.

Mobile 1 is no longer a Group IV. Check this http://www.g35driver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143074

5w-30 seems to be the oil of choice for most supertech users. However, when I was actually in Walmart buying some a couple months ago, a guy w/ a '93 Cougar XR7 started preachin' to me how it's the best oil he's ever used. He then warned me that he can't use the 5w-30 because of the high milage and loose tolerances of his engine cause a higher consumption than the 10w-30.
My car has 130k on it and I haven't lost a drop at 2200 miles on the stuff. Then again, I think the LS1 is a much better motor than his old ford 4.6.
A couple of uoa's I've seen from Blackstone labs indicate that the stuff thins out pretty good by the end of it's lifespan...closer to a 20w, but still demonstrates excellent wear protection. This is usually a good indicator of a quality additives pack. May even help mpg's a little.

just to let you know, mobil 1 30 weights are also group 3. mobil 1 5W-30 and 10W-30 is a group 3 synthetic. it's a crappy one at that. i'd run castrol syntec 5W-30 any day over mobil 1 5W-30. they're both group 3.

i THINK their 40 weights are still group 4's. i've run 5W-40 with moderate success, though GC 0W-30 didn't burn as much and gave me a quieter engine with about the same oil pressure.

ever since exxon bought mobil, they've run mobil 1 into the ground. all of it's not even a true synthetic anymore, and they've changed their formulas, put lower quality additives in them and raised the price. i HATE exxon. i don't even buy gas from them. two companies i won't buy gas from are exxon and citgo. screw them both.

Actually I'm calling on that. I am maintaining that Mobil 1 has always been a Group IV oil.

Thanks, LSwon-der (nice posts count btw, over 4 billion). I have 114k on mine, and would like to try 5w-30 (instead of usual 10w30).

What is the mileage "at the end of (Supertech's) lifespan?"

well then, you'd be wrong. mobil 1 has been group III for quite a long time now in their 30 weights.

http://forums.evolutionm.net/archive.../t-232827.html

or just google "mobil 1 group 3".

you calling bs on it is you believing in a lie. mobil 1 is NOT a full synthetic anymore, at least the 30 weights i know for a fact.

It says european formula on the back. Look at the ws6 store and they have some pics.

For the rotella they only to my knowledge make one synthetic oil and it is in a blue container. I think it is 5W40.

not true.

German castrol comes in both "european formula" and regular 0W-30 syntec, not european formula. i have both sitting on my shelf at home. here is a big pic:

look at the back. if it says "MADE IN GERMANY", it's GC 0W-30. it doesn't matter if it says "european formula" or not because GC comes in both varieties.
