i had two months of intensive OFF. & DEF. driving...learned how to park my 5000 pound crown vic on a dime and recover a caprice from a wet slick pad spin and chase a civic down through a road course timed with a crown vic...just to name a few...
driving a fbody is a breeze now

I learned the redneck way. 13yrs. old, my dad's '77 chevy 1/2 ton 454, and dirt roads, cow pastures, and orange groves! And at 14 my 79 Subaru Brat flying through the palmettos and ditches. Stomp and steer, man! When she's sideways, stay in it and drive!

I learned to drive a fast car by putting my foot to the floor . I learned to drive sideways in the snow and on ice.
How long ago was this, and which company? I used to run one of the companies here in town.

This was my first fast RWD manual car, Well to me my moms honda element was fast
, but I learned to drive in that got my car and just took it easy I never drove a manual car well and I got this and just drove it around the day I got it picked up on it I still am learning and I have had it go out on me twice since I got it on the main road...both ending in a CURB which sucks for my rims. Just watch it hitting it hard in a turn sometimes I hold a few times I didnt.

First manual trans car that I had was a Mazda Protege', learned on that then I had a manual trans Cavalier, then a '91 turbo-charged (manual) RX7. ...Then I got my Camaro. Since I got the RX7 dirt cheap, I beat the hell out of it, learned how to drift, etc. THEN, I got the Z28. I'm really glad I got used to "fast" rwd with the rx7 before I got the Camaro.

I learned to drive in a 04 mustang gt, ford f150, and a honda civic. Then when I turned 16 I hopped in the f-body and just showed it enough respect to keep from wrecking. Im not saying I havent got sideways coming thru the school parking lot or cut a doughnut here or there but its all about respect for the car, and as said before common sense.

learn in a 3rd gen 1rst(thats what i did)....they are fast enough to learn how the car will react but slow enough where your not gonna kill your self!!4th gens are way too fast for un-experienced drivers!!plus you dont want to tear up a newer car,go thrash an older 200,000 plus milage 3rd gen or a fox body slowstang!!!

Definitely just take time to get to know the car. Don't go out the first day and try pushing it to its limits and past your limits as a driver. Drive it pretty easy for the first few weeks and then slowly start to try new things. Most of all, pay attention to what you're doing, you lose concentration at the wrong time for a second and you could end up in a ditch. The best analysis of a car that I heard when I first got my license is that it's a "loaded gun". If you think of it that way and respect the car and its capabilities, things should go pretty well.

Seat time, and being smart enough to know when to keep your foot out of it. Chances are if you feel dicey about taking a turn to quick or the outcome of whatever you are thinking about doing, then don't. Or if you do decide to go that route, take it slow first.

lol, im actually kind of in a similar boat, i used to have a 5 speed na supra, but have rarely driven a standard in the last couple of years, and am currently looking for an m6 fbody. i plan on just taking it easy for the first couple of weeks at least, but hoping that like riding a bike it'll all come back to me once i get behind the wheel
