sold the TA cause it wasnt practical anymore. 22, just finished college, live at home, both my parents cars are in garage and thats not changing. Same drive every morning to work. Lots of interior noise, I was getting tired of driving stick in traffic, plus it wasnt too kind on gas. I want something practical and a daily driver but also looks good and runs well.
I had a V6 Camaro, 98, before the TA, and I loved that car to death. Never put one penny into it and it had 72,000 miles when I sold it, A4 also. I spent $3,000 in just mechanical upkeep on the TA.
GTO has a V8, but also eats gas, high in insurance, only has 3 year warranty coverage, and is RWD, and I sold my TA for those exact same reasons. All season, a car thats looks good, has some power. It's a tough decision. It biased on here cause its an LS1 site, so I understand that. Trust my I love LS1 and LS2.
I just wish GM had some kind of muscle car out right now, brand new 07,08's but they don't

Shoulda kept the Firebird under storage insurance and got a V6 3rd gen. My '92 Camaro RS went 250,000 miles and not a single engine problem. And also you could do whatever you wanted to the 'bird since it was a garage car!
If you felt you had to sell the Firebird than you would be in the exact same boat with the GTO or the G6. It is mostly what you make of it though... if you can't afford anything get a old used Pontiac 6000 (not serious but just an example of one of the cars I use as a DD when needed) untill you can afford the muscle, then you wouldn't of had to sell it and anyone can afford the storage insurance on a non-driven car.
If you can't afford something as cheap as an older F-body than can you really be setting your sights on a new car at all? They don't get much cheaper than this.
Maybe look for something cheap and used that isn't a performance car as a DD until you can afford the performance car that you want that fits your style.
Don't take me serious though... it's only an opinion...

I can afford a performance car, thats not a problem. Its just NJ thats the problem. I can't stand this state. Insurance, taxes, roads, weather, its horrible. NJ was voted worst roads in america so you can see how it is not fun to drive around NJ hitting pot holes and all sorts of crap. We'll see, I do like the GTO, but the GXP seems a better DD for snow and everything since it is FWD, and 6 spd auto with tap shift is nice. But who knows, I got time lol

i think its a simple decision. based on what you said your looking for in a car it seems the gto is just like your t/a and is out of the question. id go for the g6 for the reasons turbowhistle stated. its not like f-bodies and gto's are rare. if you buy the g6 and dont like it then down the road there will always be a f-body or gto available. i think the g6 looks pretty good actually.

i feel that our gto's will some day be a little pricey seeing as how every limited production sports car starts going up in price about 10 years after. i.e grand national, gmc typhoon, gmc syclone, t-type etc. go for the goat clean *** interior that rivals the new vettes

If you want a performance car, get the GTO. If you want a sporty car that can easily be driven in snow, buy a WRX. Youll be kicking yourself in the nuts for buying a torque steering FWD econo-box.

just test drove a gto, and I loved it. drove very very nice, handels awesome, i am def looking around for a good priced out one. too bad the dealership told me $33,000 was their bottom line. i laughed and walked out the door. they have 4 of them on their lot, I wonder why..oh thats cause they are charging regular price on a year and half old car. I love the Torrid Red. Def trying to locate one around in NJ. I loved it. Front end needs the grill inserts and body extension, cause I love that and makes it look 200X better. So, just trying to locate on now..

**** it bro be different, get the G6 if you want! I think the front end is ugly but the rest of the car looks good. If you want a V8 I would just wait for the Camaro to come, it will be well worth the wait!
