Default Car keeps over heating

i drained the coolant many times and re-filled it..got a brand new stock thermostat from a friend and its a little better.. But on hot days sitting in traffic, it will go past 3/4 mark.. thats insane!!

what will be better..if i get a 160 thermostat or manual fan switch..

and also, any ideas why is just randomly starting overheating like this? it never even sits at 210 anymore unless im cruising at 80

throwing in a t stat or fan switch is a bandaid for a bigger problem.
Is the car eating coolant?
How many miles?
Anything blocking the rad?
Did you bleed the system to get all of the air out?
is the water pump functioning properly?
Coolant leaking out of anywhere?
is your radiator cap good(if its not holding preassure, it lowers the boiling point of the coolant making it overheat)?
Is the rad blocked?

i'm sure i'm missing a few things to look at.

I'm just taking a guess but it might be something worth trying.

I'm having the exact same problem, and I have manual fans. If I'm sitting for a period of time the temp will just continue to rise. I don't know if it'll stop because I try to keep moving so it's cooled off. I also have a 160*. I had to fill it up a little once, but I bleed it and it's been full for a few heat cycles, and nothing is leaking. Only started happening since it's been freakin hot out as well

I know the rad cap is on, my question is how old is it? The cap is supposed to keep the system preassurized....if the car falls, it stays on but releases the preassure...making the coolant boil at a lower temp...which makes the temp start to skyrocket. its a 10 dollar part to try...and if its the stock one, probably needs to be replaced anyway.
