Default 98 ls1 problems

I have a ls1 head and cam stock bottom end 98 Vette. THe car has always used a little oil, but with time it seems to be huffing more and more. It some times huffs when when idles and huffs when I get on it at higher rpm. The car put down good power (440 rwhp). I do not have cats on the car. What could this be?

Are you talking about smoke coming out of a breather cap? How much oil are we talking here? I see your tryin to squeeze 1 extra hp out of 439

No breather, huffing out the tail pipe, it doesnt do it right away at idle but after a drive or been running for a while and at load in hight rpm. I have not done the zo6 pcv mod yet but have triied a breather and it seemed to not change, and I do have a catch can on the system but that doesnt seem to do what its supposed to do.

Oh sorry about the 1 hp white lie, just easier to type ( being lazy)

If its coming out of the tail pipe then its getting in the combustion chamber some how. My guess would be valve seals or rings. If it gets enough oil in there to blow a puff of smoke all the way through the exhaust there has to be enough oil in there to make that large amount of smoke. I really do not think it is your pcv system messing with you. Do a compression test and see where that leads you.

didnt say rings. he said seals lol. thats my guess also. valve guide seals wearin out, that would cause it to puff a little smoke now and again.
