Default Headers

Well i ordered some slp headers for my car and im getting ready to install them and i was wondering if it would be a big problem to run them without any cats. I heard that you could float a valve by not running any and i just wanted to be safe so if you could help me out it would be great.

i ran open headers for a week before my y pipe could be modified, no problems other than throwing the ses code for the rear o2 sensors; however you could just simply deal with the light or your tuner can turn them off for you.

People run open headers ALL the time, you should not have any problems running open headers as long as they are LONG TUBES!

Oh and one more thing, GOOD LUCK on your INstall, I heard the SLP headers are a PITA and more to install,.

Guys guys guys, he asked about running NO CATS. Not open headers. Maybe he is asking about running an offroad y-pipe.

01blue - First of all return or cancel your order for those headers. They don't fit very well and the scrape the ground on cars that are not even lowered. DO NOT GET THEM!!! I've known too many guys that hate them, seen a few cars at MTI getting something different than SLP's. And they were a huge PITA to get out.
They are soo hard to get in or out you need to lift the motor out a little...screw that.

Now running no cats but still have an offroad y-pipe is fine. Open headers are ok to a point. From what I've heard you need at least 1' of pipe after the collector.
And its not vavle float, its burning up your valves.

Good luck,
Craig.

As long as you use ORY , and be aware of the ground clearance like said before, nice headers though, good luck

Yeah. Ground clearance sucks. Install took me a few days by myself without a lift. Do the passenger side first, it is the hardest. I had to undo motor mounts, jack up motor and slide it to the drivers side and still had to beat the floor with a hammer to get them in. When I had to pull the motor, it was easy to get out when you lower the k member. I'm not putting them back in. Just got my new kooks. I liked the SLP's, there wasn't much else out back then. Now that I have kooks, I won't look back. These things are badass.

if I were you, I'd buy some cheap cats and run them...it will cut down on the rasp and if you're running true duals, it will help quiet it down a lil bit. I got my Magnaflow metallic spun cats for $159 a pair from a place that rhymes with eggs, so it was pretty cheap to stay "legal" Maybe you don't have to worry about being legal, but my girlfriend's dad is the chief of police, and I'm at his house quite a bit, so he's always asking me about my car and stuff.

You could always send them back(slps)..and buy some pacesetters with the coating....and actually have money to lower the car...and not drag headers....lol...
