What heads come on a stock 99 TransAm and are they worth working on for a cam/heads swap?

241's, not worth working over to gain maximum performance, but they can be made decent. for the $$$ youll have wrapped up in them, making them perform 100% to their potential, you could have had TSP's or TEA's or somthing like that.

241s came on 01-02 Fbodys.

853 heads cam on 99 fbody's.


Not worth ANY port work.

Buy some ported 5.3's or ported LS6(243) heads.

the 5.3s have smaller combustion chambers(I believe 57cc) and the LS6s have(64cc..not sure) which help the compression ratio and up the power.


the 5.3L heads have shorter runners do for better low to mid range power.

241 heads ARE a better head than the 853.


But 853 DID come in 99 I know cause my car was bone stock before i did the H/C on it, and Ive also read thats what they have.

i agree, i have seen 99's with 853's. regardless, not worth dumping $$$ into to make them flow better.
