Default Z06 or Z51

Hey guys, just wanted some second opinions here. I would like to get a vette soon, and I can't decide if I should bother with the Z06 or not. I am going to mod either one, and I was thinking that saving money on the Z51 would be better for me. Has anyone run into this dilema before? I would do the same work to either of them.

Thanks guys!

I had a friend that had this problem. He went with the Z51 at the time. If you are going to mod the car, I think you can achieve Z06 performance on the Z51 for a less money in mods than you will spend to get the Z06.

I wish I had your problem. If funds are not tight I would do the Z06.

Your takling about two totally different machines.

Z51 is a nice package for the C6, brake and suspension upgrade, and different ride modes.

Z06 - totally different engine and set up on all four wheels.

Ask yourself, do I want to spend an extra 25k for the Z06 which will get you 105 hp more along with about 250-350 pds less, upgraded suspension, brakes, lighter this better that!

This should actually be an easy answer for yourself. Its two totally different things in my opinion. You are going to spend less in modding the Z51 to get to the Z06 power and price, thats a given, its not going to cost 25k to get 105 hp and x amount of tq. Throwing just an exhaust and VR intake on the Z06 alone gives you a huge power increase.

Z06, put a few mods on it and you are going to be amazed, Z51 would take alot to get to the Z06 modded numbers. Good luck, but if money isnt the issue, there would be no thought about going with the Z06, its just all around better than the Z51.

edit.....by the way the 08's are going to have the LS3 and will only be about 80 hp less than the Z06 unless chevy has one up the sleeve.

'07 z06! One day it will be a legend and hard to find. At least you will be able to say that you owned one.

Yeah my bad, I should have clarified that I was talking about a C5. I feel like a dope now. Thats why its an issue. The main issue is the funds. I'm short of both right now, but I want to get everything sorted out so I know exactly what I want. I'm comfortable with both cars, and I know about both cars. It was more of a pricing question than anything because I am sick of living off of ramen...

The 2002-2004 Z06's are actually some very fine machines..
Some of the things that went into them are still kickin the **** out of alot of Cars.

You can pick them up for probably around $25k-30K..

Oh.........that changes everything, I would say go with the Z51 and save some cash. Good luck finding one though, I think they are harder to find than a z06. Either way you are so close in performance either way you go, both great cars. Z06 has better power again. Man I would say go with Z51. You arent going to lose either way you go.

first i want to ask why you would trade or sell your camaro for a vette if you're on a ramen noodle budget, but if you really want a vette, then i fully second the z51 package, because with the money you'll save spent in mods, you can have a faster car than a z06. you could probably pick up one of these cars for under 20k too.. not a bad deal for a stock old man driven 12 sec car that has awesome handling.

the only thing i dont like about vettes is that they suck to work on if you're not getting paid to do it. i'm sure you will be doing alot of the work yourself, you're in for a bumpy ride.

What the hell are you talking about? A Corvette is way easier to work on than an F-body, the engine is easier to get to.

Z51 because i freaking LOVE targa tops.

i know i know the Z06 has to be more rigid and if it had one it'd be heavier...but i'd rather mod a Z51 or straight up C5 than have a Z06 just because i can't imagine having a corvette without the targa. plus IMO i don't really like the way the roof line of the Z06 or FRC goes back...

Id also look att he FRC vettes as they have the z06 look but will be cheaper. Toss a g5x3, CAI, pulley, some long tubes, cattless midpipes, and catback of choice and you will have a potent machine.

Don't forget to include insurance estimate for the budget...unless you're old, or approaching old (like me) insurance will probably be a bear to pay for on a Vette. Just another reason why I have a modified Z28 versus a stock Vette.

Also, C5 Z51 may be less to insure than a C5 Z06, and a base C5 should be less than both of them.

For a C5 I'd rather have a ZO6.
