Back on track, leghumpers ... my buddy has a Flowmaster 80 with LT's and ORY and it sounds awesome. He had cutouts on it for a while. At the track there was no difference open or closed. Seeing that led me to dismiss all the rhetoric about how badly they flow.

this thread is pretty sweet.

though I don't understand why the flow is quiet I always heard they had alot of resonance and were loud at idle compared to other catbacks..??

Its been said for years and years. I do agree that it maybe a little on the restrictive side, but nothing like what people say it is.

2-3rwhp tops I would image. Just my opinion though, I need hardcore proof.

90% opinion.

A lot of people like the sound of the Flowmasters....

Looks? Depends on the tips. I have Corsa replica's. They look awesome.

Robbing of ponies? I don't know... like I said, I dont feel a diff in the pants, its only a cat-back, but I did notice a faster climb/fall of engine speed, as I stated.

Correct.... If I lose a tenth at the track that I visit MAYBE 3 times a year, its not a big deal since it sounds good....

Flowmaster or GMMG... still faster than a mustang right?

And if I wanna go fast.... just refer to my 1st mod in sig

Well it looks like a giant pillow the tips it comes with look tacky, you shouldnt have to spend more money modifiying a catback to make it look decent.......and its not loud enough for me

After having a Flowmaster on my 1989 Formula, I would never buy another of their products. It sounded pretty good...until it rusted into pieces.

DOOO ITTT!

I know that I am gonna swap out the 80 series muffler on the z I am buying for a 40, or 45.. series.

The flowmaster doesn't sound that bad, but someday I am gonna go x-piped true duals...

Flowmasters used to be excellent products. Now the rest of the industry has caught up, but that didn't stop me from putting one on my 2000 WS6. To me they sound very good, esp w/ an or-y and LTs. Having said that, I've heard a few GMMGs recently, and I'm going to give it a shot.

Flowmaster still makes good mufflers, just not the crossflow for our cars. But even that one sounds good. My LS1 with the Loudmouth 1 is pretty loud and I have cats and manifolds.
It's nowhere near as loud as my '80 Z28 that had heads, cam, 10.5:1 comp, headers and 2 1/2 duals with Flowmaster 2 chambers. That thing was unbearable for more than 5 minutes (though pro stock nasty sounding) with open headers. And it set off car alarms, rattled windows, and jiggled my ***** with the mufflers on.
At stock power levels the flowmaster catback doesn't cost you that much power. At higher levels you need to get it off there, unless the sound is more important to you than the power. If that's the case, it's your car f*ck the bitches who don't like it.
