Trade 1998 Z28 for new 2006 GTO?

Hi everyone. I have the chance to trade my 98k mile Z28 for a new 2006 GTO. The GTO is at a small dealership that's eager to get rid of it, as the out the door price after trading the Z28 would be 22K. This, along with 0% for 60 months makes taking on a new car very appealing.
Normally I wouldn't consider anything over an F-body, but in the last 4K miles the Camaro has developed a slight tick at idle and higher rpms that I beleive to be a sticking lifter. The car runs fine otherwise. My question is should I hold on to the Camaro since it's paid for and fix it as neccessary or jump ship for the goat. Regardless of what I do I plan on a new Camaro around 2011. Any opininons would be greatly appreciated.

I say get the goat and enjoy the LS2. Sounds like you dont feel like dickin around with the Z, plus I think that you will like the amenities of the new Goat. Looks like you have a formy from the sig so.....you still have your fbody. What ever you do, its going to be a good decision.

The only modifications to the Z28 are Bilstein HD shocks, Brembo Rotors, SLP subframe connectors, and a lid.
Quiet_Storm98: I don't plan on the new Camaro until 2011 at the earliest, as I'd like to avoid the inevitable dealer mark ups and first year bugs. If I get the GTO it would serve as a stock daily driver and eventual trade in when the time comes.
Thanks for the responses.

Yes the WS6 Formula is still with me and will be until I die. I bought the Z28 back in 2004 to have another Ls1 car for fun, but it ended up becoming a semi-daily driver whenever my v6 Firebird was down. Thanks again for the replies.

I voted for the new GTO but what color is it? Auto or manual? They are nice cars. And most people buy and trade in a few years anyway. Just take good care of it. 22,000 at 0% for 60 mo wont be a bad payment. And you really cant beat 0% financing

hey, how much are they going to give you for the z28? how many miles on it, options, etc... the reason i ask is because i stopped by a pontiac dealer the other day that had two 06 gto's that were still new and one was $25k and some change, the other was just barely over 26. i don't know what sales tax is where you are, and dealer fees etc... but $22k plus the z seems a little high, when you could buy a slightly used goat for 22k, without trading the z in, fairly easily. i guess if the z is trashed then that would make a difference, but i doubt that it is... btw, thanks for the compliment, but unfortunately the ss is gone
but i am in the process of getting a 98 z myself...

nssane: I did look at a few used goats, but the main appeal of buying new is the 0%. Also most of the used GTOs in my area are too hgh mileage, too high priced, or both. As far as trade in I was offered 5,500, which I know is on the low side of acceptable but under the circumstances it's better than the 4,000 I was offered a week before by another dealer. I would say the car is in great condition for its age and mileage; it's a solid "6 footer".
Good luck finding a 1998 Z.
