i usually only put 1/4 of a tank in at a time to keep it race weight haha, maybe thats why it seems like it gets such bad milage..i had it full once, seemed like it lasted forever. also mine fluxuates alot when i turn or brake, its only accurate when i stand still for about a minute.

I have gone 50 miles on empty.. liek. ON EMPTY. I have a 1998.. take that into considderation... and yeah, it floats at full for a while, its the same of the tank, there are boxes you can design to fix it but it still wouldnt really acurate, it would just go down more smoothly...

Mine stays on full for almost 50 miles, then drops very fast after that.... When its working.
Latly alot of the time, the car will be full, then all of a sudden the gauge will say empty. Then 5 minutes latter it reads right again. I think my float is messed up.. or something. The car will be getting a bigger fuel pump this winter anyways..

The shape of the tank is irrelevant. The rumor that the V shape of the tank is the cause, is nothing more than misinformation that has been repeated numerous times and accepted as fact. The gas gauge is controled by the pcm. It converts the value from the float in the gas tank to the number of gallons/liters of gas in the tank. In the fist picture labeled stock, you will notice how quickly it slopes off. The is why the gas gauge is slow to move when full, but goes from 1/2 to 1/4 of a tank in no time. In the second picture, you will notice where I smoothed the table to allow for a gradual slope. In this configuration, my fuel needle stops at the F when full and I will be out of gas when on the E. I have observed that the "check gauges" low fuel light will come on when I have about 3.8 gallons left. If you have EFILive or another tuning program, you should be able to edit your "convert sender to volume" table to give you a more linear gas gauge.

My '02 gauge works fine. The '01 worked too. The '97 was complete fiction! Half a tank and look for a gas station. So I am apt to think that GM must have tried to make adjustments to the problem between years. Or maybe differences between individual cars?
