Default How rough does your car idle?

Ok, so, dumb question since I have been a member for awhile. Yet, here is the situation. I bought my car from a girl who was the second owner. She didn't even know what all was done to it. I know it has lid, filter, MAF, 4.10s. What else...I don't know.

My question is, how rough does your LS1 idle. Mine is pretty aggressive. It shakes the car...vibrates the shifter, seats, etc. Wondering if I may have a mild cam in it. I know that my friends 600hp 03 Cobra doesn't shake nearly as much, not that that is an indicator of the hp.

I had it in a shop a couple years ago and the mech took it for a drive and told me, "Man, thats definitely not stock."

Like I said, dumb question.

Anyway...opinions?

Mine is pretty tame. I'd say strap that ****** to a dyno and you'll know for sure.

First check the mounts to see if they look aftermarket and/or worn. Either situation could contribute to vibrations, but hopefully it would be the former.

Otherwise, yeah, a "normal" LS1 idles fairly smooth.

See what RPM it idles warm, I've got a small 224 cam and I'm @ 850 and its dead smooth.
Bigger the cam the higher the idle usually.

Stock idle RPM is right around 600~650 warm.

You might just need a seafoam. Or your mounts are worn. Or you have a cam.

I replaced the motor mounts with solids, and the tranny is the stock mount. The engine doesn't move at ALL, and I have very little interior rattle, 228/230 cam here.

+1 get it on a dyno and see what it puts down... you ever been to the track or had any runs with cars we could compare it to?

stock internals here w/ solid mounts. The inside has just enough vibration to notice it, and the idle quality is very tame. I think the stock 98 cam is something like 116 lsa or similar.

Both cars are cammed. They **** off the neighbors and small children run away crying from both of my cars. No silky smooth idle over here...just the way I like it.

Mine idles at 600 RPM. I really can't say it's rough, but every few seconds, there might be a side-to-side shake. It's not consistent, but definitely noticeable, and only experienced it on a cold start. Is this normal?

I idle about about 700. Few shakes every now and then. My shifter shakes too.
