Similar output?

wtf?!

what is similar, no hp or tq numbers are similar and on top of that the mach 1 is heavier than a F body, and dont get me started on how heavy a cobra is..

this is Blasphemy!

Who cares about what some jerkoff has to write about on wikipedia. The fact still remains that the dohc 4.6 does come up a bit short in power compared to the ls1(stock vs. stock) and with equal drivers in both cars, the ls1 fbody will always come out on top, even if it isn't by much. The only 99-04 mustang you can truely say is better than the ls1 fbody performance wise is the 03 04 cobra, hands down! And I think most of us can agree on that. I'd say the mach 1 comes even closer than the 99-01 cobra but my vote still goes to the ls1 (although I might be a little bit bias).

changes to wiki, i did not do this edit though... But im guessing some one from this board did!

"The Cobra came back in 2001 with the same power rating with the problem fixed. The Cobra engine still lacked the necessary cubic inches to keep up, with the LS1 competition. The LS1 F-bodies were making a very hefty amount of low end torque, something the 4 valve motor lacked. This resulted in Cobra running slower 1/4 mile ET's so for 2003, SVT fixed that problem. They found the "replacement" for "displacement" in the form of boost. While the 2001 Cobra shares almost all the same components of the 1999, some changes were made. The changes included:"

Why are you guys getting mad? Why not just love the LS1 for what it is, its not God.

Yes, The 2004 Mach 1 makes the same hp and 10 less torq then a 5.7 liter LS1. ooh noo's. And has a nicer torq curve and hp curve then the LS1 in the Camaro. Oh noo's.

2004 Cobra >>>>>> SLP Z28 > 2004 Mach 1 > 2002 Z28

And its a 4v motor who races in low end torq? Thats for the street, and with the 7k rev limit. Don't fear the gear. 4.10's heck 4.30's and still 70 mph at 2,800 rpm's is safe. And boom ur torq is back.

under 4.6

"The Modular DOHC was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1996, while the SOHC was on the list for 2005 and again for 2006. But it still does not compare to GM's superior LS1, nor will it ever."

lol

SN-95 2 Modular (1999-2001*)
A rear bumper that reads "COBRA", instead of "MUSTANG", as the 1999 Cobra had. But no one has ever seen the rear bumper

I love pushrods but don't get me wrong. DOHC > Pushrod 2v

2000 Cobra R 5.4L DOHC = 385 hp
LS1 5.7L Push Rod = 310 hp

But to make you happy I'm sure the 2002 LS1 Camaro's had 325 hp easy and underrated.

Per cubic inch the DOHC setup will give you more hp over a pushrod, because hp is a measure of efficiency. Torq on the other hand is measured in cubic inches. Though as we can see with the 2004 Mach 1 4.6 L 4v with 330 lbs of torq. It sure isn't hurting it either.

Lastly, for the final slap. Even though the 2002 LS1 has a TINY bit more torq then a 04 Mach 1. Compare the torq and hp curves. This is where the Mach 1 eats the F-body LS1. The Mach1 torq curve is broader and the HP curve is longer.

Understandable but it also has alot more moving parts making it a more complicated system, more reason for something wrong waiting to happen.

Ummmm you do know that the SLP Z28 (aka SS) has the same motor as the Z28 depending on year with or without the LS6 intake.

2003/2004 Cobra with 3 extra cams 16 extra valves AND a blower to finally over come a pushrod 346 small block. Oh and can't forget that mustangs usually come with more aggressive rear end gears as well.

The one thing that irks me with GM is that the Fbodies were not their flagship cars unlike Ford with their Mustang (excluding Ford GT), the Vette is. The Vette gets all the attention while the Fbods get restricted.
