so i am putting an ms3 and a ported ls6 oil pump in my 01 ss. Never done anything like this before but i have recently been doing a little work on cars and i just started taking a 2 year GM program to become a tech, so i figured id give it a shot since i dont have a time limit. good thing too because i dont have a lift to use. been workin on the car with a friend for 2 days now, and on about the 12th hour of actual work. i got everything in and the timing cover and valve covers back on. so i have to still install the balancer, the water pump and the serpentine belt., then put the radiator in and hook everything back up. Would u guys consider this a normal amount of time for a new guy with no lift or am i really freakin slow?? how fast can you guys do cam swaps?

IMO, it sounds very reasonable. For your first major work on a car, I don't think you should be disappointed. As long as you are taking your time, and not taking any short cuts, you should be in good shape. Good Luck!

Im a decent mechanic, and it took me 11 hrs total. First cam swap, and I cleaned all the parts that came off(timing cover, valve covers, ect). I changed the cam, oil pump, springs, chain, and gaskets, and did it totally by myself, on jack stands in my garage

I LMAO when I read some of the times people claim to complete mods in. As for myself, I don't race in the garage while installing my mods. I really don't care how long it takes. I know when I torque that last fastener, everything is done right. I leave the racing to the street or at the track

Don't rush if it is your first time. I gave myself 3 days and 2 nights to do a cam swap. Long? Probably. But I absolutely was not looking to **** something stupid up that would sideline the car for an indeterminate amount of time. If I had to do it again I could get it done in a solid Saturday of working with a few breaks. Good luck.
