Default towing with a t/a

so I'm gonna be moving back to Iowa for a couple of months and I'm not rich so I figured instead getting u haul truck ($2k+) or renting a van ($1k) from California to Iowa I'm thinking of installing a hitch and pulling a little trailer with a bedroom worth of stuff (no furniture) this should cost me around $400 to rent a trailer and purchase a hitch. My question is, do you guys recommend this? Would you go that route? Is installing the hitch just bolt ons? And how bad might this be for my baby t/a?

Ps I'm passing through Colorado. Thanks for all and any input guys.

Additional Info

I'm thinking of getting the smallest trailer from u haul. And In that trailer would just be stuff I have in my bedroom except for furniture. Feel free to suggest other ideas if possible too. I'd appreciate it.

itll be hard on A4 and hell shifting the M6 through the mountains. And If you run into snow youre probably going to lose control of the *** end.
And you should never subject your T/A to that...I wouldnt my SS

The F body has a very low towing compasity - id go for a truck and if you coming near next week or beyond i highly suggest it. Snow is on the way in iowa and we also get ice like no other. So i highly suggest getting a truck or putting a very high risk to your TA

I tow my boat with my 2000 SS with no problems. The hitch bolts on with 3 bolts on each side but you have to drill either 2 or 4 holes(I can't remember). It uses the mounting hole on the rear of the framerail where the rear exhaust hangers are so you need to remove and modify them if you want to keep them(they aren't really needed). I think my boat(15') weighs around 6-700 lbs with the trailer and it's fine towing that. But I would ask around about the hitch fitting the TA. I don't think it will clear the ground effects on the rear. It clears the Camaro but I think Hidden Hitch doesn't list it for the TA.

thanks guys all the input guys. I will have to make a quick decision here because of the weather. Does ups or uships ship guitar cabs (speakers) its about 5 ft tall and its got 8 ten inch speakers? Keep the suggestions coming though guys i need every option possible. I was also thinking of renting a dodge Durango from national auto to stuff my things in and install a hitch so i can tow the t/a but as far as i know installing a hitch and towing with a rental is against the contract. That would cost me $1k gas included to go with the rental plan. As opposed to $2k for a uhaul plus auto trailer. Whatdyathink?

oh yeah man, that sounds rad. Just look out for a red t/a in complete stock mode just cruising around. Although I may have to winter use my car though. I'm hoping to get a cheapy beater but I don't know. Hopefully the t/a does well in winter. Do you know if Waterloo/cedarfall uses some sort of salt on the roads for snow? And if its harmful for our cars?

ya they dump a lot of salt on the roads. and it is harmful, although a lot of an ls1 is fiberglass.

Sand and salt in iowa are both use very, very heavily. First snow is around the corner (typically late nov. early dec. However last year it didnt come till jan.) Well to tell you the truth i had to peddle it in second gear from a start to move any where with my TA and wound up in a ditch with my old camaro (Angle of road + mometum..damn newton laws).

Everyone knows somebody with a truck. I'm sure you have a friend with a truck you might be able to borrow. I would borrow someone's truck then drive it back and have a nice fun road trip to cali in the T/A! Sounds like fun to me.
