Ok, well back up to the pre-5th gen years. When 4th gens were top dog. Was GM riding on the TA or Camaro? was what I meant.. I know its obviously the Camaro, now.. But did they put more R&D into the TA/Camaro, which did they expect to be their flagship F-body. etc. Before they found out the Camaro had more sales

What kind of damn silly question is this?? GM had to pay royalties for every Trans Am sold . GM produced fewer Trans Am/Firebirds than Camaro's EVERY year, they already knew what was going to have more sales. Also what F-Body is coming back?.... Camaro.

GM is in the business to make money (no surprise there right?). Even for previous gens, there are more GM-licensed restoration parts for the Camaro than the Firebird. Pontiac didn't get their 2-seater Banshee back in the 60's (styling later used on the Corvette), so they were given a platform that had already been designed by Chevrolet. Add on to that the fact that they had limited time to make it "Pontiac-like", and couldn't do much with the styling as a result of it being handed over so late. The Firebird has always been a different animal for GM. The Chevrolet brand has always been the bread and butter sales for GM, so obviously more Camaros are on the roads. The 70's did get the Firebird a boost thanks to Burt and his movies, but Camaro has always been on top the rest of the time.
