Default Weight for Winter Driving

Attention All winter F-Body drivers:

How much weight should I put in the trunk when I am driving it this winter? Is there a ratio or some "rule" to follow? Does it matter that I have a convertiable?

I did purchase the following winter tires for the car via the tire rack so I'll be sure to let everyone know my opinion of the whole "winter tire and wheel combo" once I get them on tomorrow.

4 16x7.5 Sport Edition F7 Silver In Stock $86.00 $344.00

4 225/55HR-16 Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW3 In Stock $96.00 $384.00

Thank you

I don't think you really need to add any weight these cars arent that light the problem with them is the wide tires and poor tread choice and it looks like you have that addressed.

However for icy situations you could use a good 150 pounds (three or four sandbags) and that should do it. I never have used extra weight in mine, just took it easy and drove through mild winter (before i got my truck) with Nitto drag radials.

Daily drove my 'bird in our lovely Indiana Winters for five years. 76 mile round-trip commute. Never used weight or snow tires, and never missed a day of work. It's more driving skill than weight addition.

Yup. Learning to drive is probably the biggest help. I don't drive my Z in the winter, but I never drop my truck into 4WD unless I get stuck. You should be fine if you just learn to feather it and take it easy.
