got 198k on mine. Still pulls crazy and havent had any issues. That kind of mileage it was probably drivin on the highway alot. in 6th gear at 65 the car is maybe doin 1350RPM. Which is why i think they last so long plus the LS1 is a strong well built engine(6 bolt main for example) id say go for it.

id buy it in a heartbeat if the body and interior are in good shape. there are lots of high mileage ls1's out there. 98 wasnt the best year but for that price id buy it. i wouldnt mod it til college was done though!!!!! keep the 4k for school and such. you'll be happy w/ a stock ls1 trust me and they get good gas milage too for what they are. plus even if you only have a few months or a year or so left in school it will give you tons of time to do your research on what you want out of the car, that way you dont have to buy alot of parts x2 or x3.

BlueStreak362 i look at it the same way. Mostly highway driving for my z28. the seats arent even worn out. they look brand new in my car. Actually since my dad works at caddillac he ran a build sheet on my car and we found out it came from PA. she spent most of her life there as well. And there is absoultely no rust on the car. TRUST ME BUY THE CAR!!!

I would say you have to look at reward vs. risk. If there are any football fans you know its kind of similiar to the patriots trading a 4th rnd pick for randy moss. if he screws up its only a 4th rnd pick but it worked for them. my 99 TA had 101k when i went with a LS2 402 and it ran just as hard at 101k as it did at 64k when it was purchased. that includes 2 cross country trips from indiana to california. i would bite on it, use it as a DD until you graduate and replace the motor afterwards. if you're worried about 400-450 rwhp in a t-top car it's as simple as installing sub-frame connectors. anyways good luck.

If you don't buy it your silly! THere are people on this site hitting 190k LS1's with 100 shots of NOS. Also there is a WS6 on Autotrader with 243,000 on it for $4000 lol !

I'd definetly get a complete inspection from a mechanic including a compression check before I bought it.

t tops will be strong enough just get sub frame connectors and that will stiffen it right up they only cost 150 or so. and you should see the prices on a rebuild at your local shops.

Only buy it if you plan to keep it forever because even if you do a rebuild or drop a new motor in it the chassis will probably be well over 200K by then and you won't get anything if you would try to sell it.

Get something with less miles. My TA has 149k and it is fine. But it sounds like you are in school and need something with less miles. Not sure if you know how to work on cars or not if they break. But if i were you id get a lower miled one for 7k. You can find a 1999 z28 with 100k for 7k easy.

I know the car your talking about. I saw it on craigslist also. Seems like its in good shape and the guys says it has a new t-56. I would definetly ask to see a receipt for that. But IMO its a great deal for $3k. Besides those UGLY *** rims on it. Wish i had the extra cash, id buy it for a project.

Like the majority already stated..... GET IT!!!!!! Its a deal for that price!!! How much do engine pullouts sell for? I mean LS1 engines and trannies with harnesses? $2500-$3500??? Theres your answer! Buy it, and if it breaks down the road, part it out!

You would have to want to keep the car forever. The car in my sig had 160k on it, then I sold it, wish I didn't. However, you have to think of the mileage on the rear end, suspension, and most of all electronics. Getting up that high stuff stops working. I would honestly put all your money into buying a good F-body then save for mods after school.

You won't need a cage for 450RWHP, and like people have said, get sub-frames. I personally don't believe in SFC's, I've talked to a couple of guys that have torn these cars apart and put them back together more times than you could count, and both of them have said that all the strength is in the quarters. SFC's don't help, but they don't hurt either.

are you trying to sell/trade ur durango on CL as well? i saw that on there, looks pretty nice (assuming its the one im talkin about haha)

for the poster askin if i knew how to work on cars, im just getting into the car scene, but ive been building 4x4 trucks for about 4 years. im mechanically inclined and have never takin any of my rigs to shops to get work done that i could do myself. so i know a decent amount minus motors, if you asked me to rebuild a motor i wouldnt really know where to start. but basic motor stuff isnt a problem

i sent the guy an email bout the car and left a voice mail, but no word back yet. ill probably wait for something with less miles, my dad didnt seem too thrilled bout a car with more miles than my current dd (152k on a '93 towncar)

Get it if it checks out. I bought my 99 with 188k on it for 4k, has 198k now and Ive had minimal maintenance to do to it. Only out of the way thing was the axle bearings, but thats no biggie IMO.

I modded mine and it handles it well, its about to get nitrous and a cam. Run it till it blows!

If you want a reliable DD car I would spend the $7k on a nice Honda, Accord, ect. That's a lot of miles on that car for me to trust it as a DD.

LS1 is a proven and great motor. True there are alot of beat ones out there but they are very strong motors. Buying a 4cy car to call a reliable DD is gay! The cars in my sig are my daily drivers and between the 3 of them they have almost 380k between all of them
