Wouldn't help me, I lock my t-tops.

I think I'm safe though, the only way I lock my car is with the remote so unless my keys are in my hand I don't lock the doors.

I did lock myself out of my old car once though, that wasn't fun.

take a wooden wedge in between the window and the wetherseal pry the glass out a little bit and stick a 3ft metal rod (i for some reason had one) through the opening to hit the unlock button

Did that last week to my beater leaving work. Started it and got out to scrap the ice off the windows and went to get back in and it was locked, must have bumped it. Felt stupid, but luckily since I was at work I went down to the shop and got a triangle shaped piece of wood to pry the door open. Got it open enough to put a bent piece of rod found lying around to hit the unlock button. If I was anywhere else i would have been screwed.

I locked my keys in the car a few weeks ago, keys on the floor.
I tried a stiff wire to push the door unlock button and it didn't work.

I ended up going to a run down service station and this old guy gave me an old dusty slim jim. Didn't think it would work on a car so new but I got it open in under two minutes.

ok, let me get this straight.....there has been a string of car robberies in the area, and you're......leaving the car running with the keys in the ignition, and no one in the car.......

two words: remote start

i can start my car without even leaving the house to let it warm up, and if anyone does jump in and try to steal it, the steering wheel is still locked, and the engine will die as soon as the brake pedal is pressed.

I leave mine unlocked. If someone is going to break in I would rather them just open the door than break the window. Im going to have to replace the steering column and radio and whatever else they broke anyways. As long as the window wasnt broken I would be saving money. Kind of a screwed up way to look at it. I've only had my car broken into twice though...

Locked my keys in the car once. Prying the window and hitting the butten doesn't work with my alarm. After the door is closed for a min or two the unlock buttens are disabled, even with the window is down and you just reach in it wont work. Lucky about a month after i bought the car the PO mailed me a door key he had found, so i was able to run in and get it. Set my alarm off at 7 am but oh well I don't think my neighbers like me anyway after the LM1

I just stopped locking mine completely, but i'm in a tiny town in virginia and dont really worry about much around here.

This thread did remind me about my Chevelle and it's lock problems though, haha. I have the trunk key and ignition key, but for some reason the doors will never unlock from the outside with a key if you push the button down from the inside. So I bent a coat hanger into the perfect size to reach in the window and yank the **** up in case I ever did have to lock my doors, and I put it in the trunk. Since I had a working trunk key, all I had to do was open it, get the coat hanger out, and unlock the car, haha.

I dont have any spares at all. Had my car for 6 years now. I keep meaning to get a set made but keep forgetting. That and its like 35 for an ignition key? Havent ever locked myself out of or in my car. Just pay attention is the best thing. I think when I was like 18 I lost my keys once to my 72 chevelle. Once and only once. Havent lost or locked myself out of a car since then. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. LOL

GMex though I woud have done the same thing. Who would think the spare remote wouldnt work while the car was running. Thats just weird. I start my car and let it run all the time and go in the house I make sure it isnt locked but if I was in your neighbor hood I woud have done the same thing. Just weird. Obviously you need a spare key. How did the insurance person get into the car?

I just bought new keys for spares. $38 for both and they just cut them, no questions asked.
About a month ago I locked my keys in on the floor board. I tried poking the unlock switch with a stiff wire and it didn't work but it tore up the weather strip
I ended up getting in 2 minutes with an old slim jim.
What sucks is when the key is in the ignition the door is not supposed to lock, on my car it sometimes does not sense the key in the ignition.
