Default Advice about a higher mileage LS1

How many miles can I go with a well taken care of LS1 without really worrying about rebuilding the motor or tranny?I know there is no exact number and depending on how well taken care of, or how hard the car was driven come into play.. but I am debating on modding one with a big cam (like the trex) or rebuilding both the motor and tranny. The car wont be my daily driver but yet I do want it to be as reliable as possible. Any advice or maybe even how much does it cost to get it all rebuilt. Thanks for everyones help

Motor upwards of 200k, tranny is more 150k or so. It really just depends on if they were abused...

IMO, if you want to go with a Trex cam, you might want to just forge the engine while you're at it. Then you can be ready for som NITROUS!

Just remember the more modifications you do, the less reliable the car could be....

I agree with the above post, 200k or so on a well taken care of engine is no big deal. I'm sitting at 188,000 on my 98 and it runs great, does not burn oil or anything. I did have to change my push rods about a year ago but nothing else.

Why did you have to change pushrods?

My 98 TA which I sold 2 days ago had 147,5xx on it and my current Formula has 152,656 on it. I have owned 4 other LS1 cars and they haven't lost a step

Started it one day drove to the gas station shut it of, When I started it again it was ticking real loud. Took it apart and found a 1 broken and 3 or 4 bent.

#1 cause is probably shifting from 3rd to 2nd instead of fourth. I did do this ONE time in the first 6 months I owned the car. I'm assuming a mechanic or autobody guy had a little fun with the car sometime in between.

#2 cause, they are just weak its a pretty common thing for people to replace them from what I've heard.

my 01 is up to 162 as of yesterday running like a champ. I didnt mod the car til 158k and thats when i made the power i have in my sig. I fully believe the ls1 is a 200+ motor. The tranny on the other hand is probably closer to 150 before it needs help
