Default Dailey Driver GTO??

Because i dont already have enough toys, im considering adding another. I live in the lovely chicago weather. Every year during winter i go through the withdrawl of drivin a car with some *****. Im considering a GTO for a D.D. but dont know anyone with one, and have no clue what they are like in the snow. My commute to work is 40 miles round trip a day. In the past i have driven an ls1 Z, a fox mustang 5.0, an 01 gt, and on a couple occasion my GN on a d/r, and i really dont wanna recreate that fun. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx

They're really nice cars. Fast, yet refined and comfortable (attributes that F-bodies lack). I say go for it.

You should wait till the G8 comes out. Sounds like that will be a neat car. GTO would be a fun drive but still has alot of power for the type of weather that comes around Chicago in winter. If you could get one for a decent price, go for it.

I love my GTO as a daily driver, but I live in Texas. We only have icy roads maybe 3 weeks at most a year. Plus no salt or anything, just crappy sand that most natives can't figure out how to drive on. I have friends with 4th gen F-bodies and (don't want to start a flame war) am not impressed with the fit/finish on most of the exterior body pannels, a/c control ***** and headlight ***** feel cheesy and to be quite honest don't feel nearly as solid as my GTO. Not to mention I've never had my window pop in doing a high speed run down the highway. I can comfortably fit 2 adults in my back seat but no more than 6 bags of groceries in the trunk. The GTO has many downfalls though, most of which won't be seen unless you start modding the car.

I can personally say that selling my lexus ls400 and my 240sx (sr20det) to buy my GTO left me much happier than had I continued to daily the lexus and race the 240. Each person has their own opinions though and I'm sure many on this website are biased. Best I can say is go test drive an LS1/LS2 GTO and see how you like it.

thanx guys i appreciate the opinions, im trying to wait for a snowy day and go test drive one. As far as mods go, i would only be doing an exhaust and cai at most! I have learned its better to leave the driver as much alone as possible. I have a grand am gt now which has no *****! I like the idea of the gto, i just try to research and think it out before i impulse buy and later regret! keep the suggestions coming

Yes I would go drive one to be sure, I personally like them quite a bit and rather DD a GTO than my Camaro. They are more comfortable and more refined.

I wouldn't suggest "waisting" a GTO like that. If it is your only car, then it's OK. But it really is a stupid way to kill a car that people are trying to collect.

FYI, the FOX body is worse in the snow. I only know this due to having both, and the GTO was caught in a slight snow storm once. It made it through fine. Then I proceded to go home and wash it off and cover it for the rest of the winter.

Get a truck with a Maggie on it.

What's not comfortable about an F-body, assuming you're in the driver's seat? I can be behind the wheel of one of these cars for hours without issues.

I could see how a 6'8" 380lb guy might not fit well though, but I'm not nearly that big.

when my TA was stock it was driveable in the snow with an A4 and traction control. haven't tried since the mods. but as long as the snow isn't too deep and you stay out of the throttle it's do-able. by the way i doubt they let you off a dealer's lot in snow in a goat, but you could try.

I'd rather drive a Tricycle. In the winter. In heavy snow. On the expressway.
