Default Storage Questions

I'm planning on going into the Navy. The deployments are 6-9 months. What the hell do yall do with your cars when you store them away? Stabil and a trickle charger ?

Mine sits in storage 9 to 10 months out of the year. i eather disconect the battery or a trickle charger is the way to go. also if some one could fire it up for you once or twice wile your gone that would help. i go and start mine from time to time. also i leave my fuel tank almost empty so when i get it out i can put fresh in. you could also add some stablizer. good luck over there. change the oil before you park it.

Thats what I figured, what is the general storage fee? I'd rather keep it in a garage than outside with a car cover.

Change the oil and put Mobil 1 or similar oil, fill the tank and put stablizer in it. If you leave you tank low it allows room for moisture to form. If you are not going to allow a person to drive the car do not start it and let it run. That allows mositure to build in the exhaust system and cuase rot. Disconnect battery negative side only. This of course is for a garage that is not heated. If the garage is heated just disconnect battery and pour a little stablizer in the gas. Make sure you have the most amount of air in your tires that is allowed which helps reduce flat spots.

i leave mine at my parent's house. it gets driven and any new mods are on the car by the time i get back. the good part is i don't pay for anything and the car doesn't just sit for up to a year. the bad part is driving cross country and not having it available right when i get back to the states. but it works for me because i don't trust a storage company with my car.

Definitely top off the fuel tank. I like to use sea foam as a fuel stabilizer. Get a battery minder(about $50.00). Trickle chargers don't turn off and on and can overcharge if left on for a prolonged period. A fresh oil change is a good idea since accumulated acid in oil over time can cause etching in the bearings. I wouldn't start it unless it will be driven enough to get it totally warmed up. Many people park on carpet pieces to reduce flatspots on the tires.
