I have a 2002 trans am and i was messing with a 03 or 04 cobra on the interstate the other nite and he only got me by a nose and he jumped from about a 50 kick. He never did really pull on me like i thought he would. Mine car is stock with a diff mass airflow senor, superchip reprogrammer, cold air ram air, and a flowmaster. I thought he should have blow my doors off but he didnt impress me much.

Most likely because it was close to stock if not stock.

My opinion might not be the most popular, but go with me on this one.

First - Why do you feel the need to be faster than this Cobra? The reason I ask is that there is ALWAYS someone with a faster ride. A modified Terminator Cobra isn't an easy task to overcome. Low 11's to High 10's if it is a Kenne Bell modded version that was put together right and tuned. You said pulleys, headers, gears, drag radials. Even if he can't drive, should be at least 12.00. But, again, there are faster rides out there.

Second - Build your car to YOUR liking; not just to beat this Cobra. Be happy with your ride and know that it's a strong runner. Set a goal in mind. 11.50's? Any faster and you'll need a roll bar to race. Do you need to go faster? Question whether faster is a safe street car. Let's say you chose 11.50's. I'd say a nice set of ported LS6 or AFR heads and a decent cam (MTI G1 or X1) will get you the power. Next, you need to get that power down. More is done with suspension to run a quick number than increasing horsepower. Why do you think Mustangs with only 300 rear-wheel horse can run low 12's? Suspension.

Just build your car for you. Don't worry about some silly Cobra. There's always another car that's faster than you. Think about all the crazy horsepower Vipers. Do you now want a 9 second car? Just be realistic in your goals. Good luck and be safe!!

Best thing you can do is learn to drive your car. More races are won on driving than horsepower.

Cobra's are no joke, but also not hard to beat. Best bet is to race from a dig. They have traction issues and take a while to build boost that is not bled off. Also they heat soak bad and loose a lot of power when hot or even up to temp. Don't let him wait to race, race after driving somewhere, you have a better shot.

I always though Cobra were so great, then 2 freinds bought 03's. I already though they were underrated for power, ford says 390HP but in reality some stock ones have dynoed 430-440-450, we dynoed one of the ones that was bought it came out at 370HP stock. I ride around in the other one all the time and honestly after riding in my car, it feels slow. On the street the TA kills it and at the track the TA kills it even more, and my best run at the track was on street tires with NO launch, with stickys I pretty sure the car is capable of dropping another .7 of the 1/4 mile time.

Stock Cobra's have not dyno'd in the 400's. Most are 330's to 370rhwp. I have seen a low of 337 and a high of 370 in stock form.

360-380rwhp is avg, ford underrated the hp numbers

With the smallest pulley on the h-eaton and longtubes he is probably push close to 500 or more with the other mods. For the fast and cheap way you're only bet is to put 150 shot on, or if he misses a gear

The ongoing LS1 Vs. Terminator saga continues...

All the people I've seen w/ the 03-04 Cobra's are very very stuck up.
Most of them don't even talk w/ others guys w/ Mustang GT's and whatever.

Yea, but how awesome would it be to be a car that has to give a Top Fueler a head start...

I've always thought it would be cool to bracket race one...have him leave when you get to 1/8 mile and watch him BLOW by!!

If the cobra only has those basic mods than you only need to add a 100 shot of spray or do a cam in the 230's duration with an ls6 intake manifold. A cam only ls1 is a very close race with a pullied cobra with equal drivers. With the 100 shot you will not really have to worry about losing.

A cobra with his mods will be anywhere from 450-480. No cobra has dynoed over 400hp stock. They are usually in the 360-385 range.

Dude get some sticky tires and some n20 and its done deal if you can drive. A pullied cobra is a nasty customer but a n20 camaro can be nastier.

I agree with the earlier post if your gonna try to beat everyone with a faster car you might wanna go talk to don shumacher cause you cant always be the fastest. Build your car for you not because a pesky cobra owner.

how bout this...

stock for stock, its damn near a drivers race. a stock f-body has been know to pull high 12's very low 13's. Cobras do about the same.

You have a weight advantage
you possibly have a traction advantage

true, modified cobras are tough, but so is a well built LS1. its gonna take some good mods to beat him, but it can be done. its already been said, you can have all the hp you want, but can you drive it?
