I unfortunatly have to work with a bunch of diehard Ford loyalist, and they like to throw in "dude its a pushrod engine", fact is, its simple, easy to work on, reliable and can still kill almost any new car out there with minimal mods. They dont want to prove the pushrod is behind the times by running me in there stangs, they know the outcome. You cant beat the LSX. GM missed a few details with the f-bodies, but atleast they got the engine right.

I was tempted to buy this '02 Z06 with 130,000 on the clock for $18K ... but I was concerned about the insurance ....

I see the engines lasting longer than the chassis in most cases. There are already a few LS1 GTOs over 100,000 miles that I know of and the engines are still going strong. With the 6 speed, gas mileage is still decent considering the added heft of the GTO. They seem to go through clutches extremely fast though. I've seen some problems with the autos in these cars, but I haven't had any issue with mine.

That's why I just bought another one. Daily driver and toy A friend of mine has a 00 Z28 with 150,000+ miles on it with a Vindicator, Trickflows, etc.. and made close to 500 with on the stock high milage shortblock. I'm about to put 5.3 heads and a MS3 on my 99 with 146,000 miles. These motors are bad *** straight up. Can't go wrong in my opinion with an LS series vehicle.

With a 368hp Hyundai family car coming, the LS1 seems dated. But for collector purposes, we have to remember that this really is the engine that re-ignited the horsepower wars. It is by far the most famous of the LSx engines and a true classic. Add to that the F-body it came in that was styled like no other car and you really have something irreplaceable. The new Camaro will be fast, but there's a magic to the LS1 engine that makes it unique.

^^ Too bad that family sedan will most likely be geared like complete *** and not compliment the power at all.
The LS1 engine is far from dated, the reliability and potential is beyond outstanding, there aren't many engines out there that can take a beating for well over 150K miles and be as reliable as the day it left the showroom floor.

Mine's over 150K (closer to 160-170K - unknown for sure) and can still haul *** against anything I come in contact with on the road around here. I'd love to take a shot at said Hyundai sedan that probably weighs as much as an A1 Abrams to go along with its 368 HP.

Outdated When GM makes a wicked ride it stays around long after. Look at the 60's muscle cars....they are still tearing up the track and going up higher and higher in value. I don't see Hyundai family sedans compeating with any BBC's much less LS1's.
Yes LS1's are becoming like the foxbody cheap to mod and a lot of power but Trans Am's and Camaro's look down right mean, not to mention modern.

A Hyundai???? Are you serious? I guess if that is what you consider more modern and as good as your LS1, go for it. I will keep mine with no payments and keep modifying it. Try finding some aftermarket for your Hyundai.
