Purchasing my first auto Ls1 Cam tranny and gears questions????
Hey guys I am possibly purchasing my first automatic ls1 I have had a stick for a while now love it, But i do not love it in Atlanta traffic. So i have found a lowmileage auto z28 it has crappy 273 gears but is really cheap. My questions are what type of cam should I put in this car? the car still needs to be able to be driven daily and I DEF want something on a 112 lsa, do i have to get a stall when I do the cam or can the car be driven without a stall for a while. And When not if I decide to lose those 273 gears will I have to change the stall again? I know this is a lot of questions but how much hp can a stock 4l60e stand I know that a stock t56 will hold up fairly well on a heads cam car but Im not sure about the automatics. any helop would be greatly appreciated.

I'm rocking the 2.73's and my plan of attack is a new stall, then a cam, and then gears. Or possibly gears at the same time as one of the other two if money permits. And I'd bypass the 3.23's and go right to some 3.73's. Tons of good info in the auto trans section.

definitely agree!! im also planning on getting my gears, cam, and verter done at the same time!! im going from 2.73 to 3.73!! i actually dont mind the 2.73. but im sure the 3.73 are alot better. as far as the verter, alot of people will say go big and all, but my car is a daily driver and never will see the track. im leaning towards a vig 3200 which is really like a 35-3600 stall!! but dont go smaller than a 3200 stall for sure. as for cam, there are many cams u can go with. obviously the bigger the cam the rougher it is to drive. the proven all around cam is a 224/224 cam. good all around power!! but guys have gone bigger!! good luck!

i'll split the diff with the other posters and say 3:42's are what i'm putting in eventually. i haven't decided on a stall. as for cam at least go bigger than my LS6 cam (very low dyno #'s) . dont forget better springs with a high lift cam. just my 2 cents

Stall size has a lot to do with personal tolerance. I run a PT4400 with 3.23's and a TR230/224 cam. It isn't the best daily driver, but it isn't bad either. I will be getting 3.90's or 4.10's soon and that will help a lot. The cam size has to do with tuning....bigger cams can be made to drive as well as smaller ones if the tuner knows what he is doing. Exhaust volume has a lot to do with converter size too. My TD's are too loud for my 4400. I'll be fixing that soon too. The volume makes the stall feel a lot bigger than it is. Find your realistic goals, and build it from there. Bigger stall, smaller stall, bigger cam, smaller cam. It's a package that should work together, not against each other.

If you get that car then you'll want to do a stall first. It's the best mod for any A4 LS1. But how big to get is the question. My advice is get a Yank SS3600. It's a great stall that's not too small most aftermarket cams but also not too big for using N20 or maintaining street manners. Plus it has a big STR that'll make launching a whole lotta fun at the track.
That stall with a tranny cooler and full bolt ons can easily make a low 12 second full weight car. Now you can add a decent cam like the TR224 and you'll have a very streetable, badass sounding 11 second street car.
But trust me. You'll want to do the stall and full exhaust first. A cam with the stock manifolds and stock converter is a waste of money IMO. And when you do swap gears either get 3.42's (for the street) or 3.73's (if you see a lot of track).
Good luck.

My car is a dd and I have a yank ss3600 with a futral 228/230 cam and it drives great. No gears as of right now it the car is very powerful. Maybe with my next set of mods i'll change them but right now I have no need for them

I was just thinking about that yesterday. Duels are awsome but with a big stall they will be annoying.
