Default Insurance went up???

I am 26 years old, live in NJ and use Progressive Insurance and have a clean driving record no points on my license at all. I was pulled over in October and the cop issued me a careless driving ticket. It went like this:
Me: "Did I do something wrong officer?"
Cop: "Um yeah speeding, racing or whatever you where doing back there.."
So what I did do was speed up to merge in a lane because a douchbag in a another car was not letting me in. My exhaust is loud so I think that attracted the cop to my car. He did not have his radar on and could not get me for speeding..Anyways I went to court and they dropped the careless to --obstructing traffic-$86 fine and no points--I thought I was doing good until....

I get my new insurance policy for the next 6 months and it increased monthly by $36 a month for a total of $252-Now $156 a month was $120 I called them up and they stated since I got a minor moving violation they increased my insurance. I explained to them it was obstructing traffic....(told them my car stalled). He stated that I have 2 insurance points now and that is why the increase....I argued with the guy and it did no good... my last comment was.."and I thought Geico was bad."

Has anyone else had this problem?? I thought since I had no points on my license then the insurance would not go up, but now there is a insurance point system...crazy its like you can't win...

You need to contact a local independent insurance agent and have them shop your insurance. Progressive is a direct writer of auto insurance and can't shop your insurance like an independent agent can. You will probably save money by doing this. Be honest about any claims you have had because most personal lines carriers share loss history.

Damn that's a lot, yours was high to begin with. For my car and my 99 Silverado 1500 it costs me $104 a month, full coverage on both.

Insurance points are different than points on your license. Unfortunately, you gotta know which violations affect your insurance. I have progressive in NJ and have had great rates and great service. I had 2 bogus insurance points that I had wiped off. Sorry yours won't come off. Did you ask them how long it would take?

$252 a month for someone over 25 is too much imo. I would switch insurance companies.

I pay $145 a month on my Camaro for full coverage through farmers insurance and I'm 22. I got a quote from progressive back when I was shopping for insurance and they quoted me close to $300...no thanks.

Insurance points are totally independant of points on your license. This has been the case for a LONG time, it is just a relatively unkown fact. I do know that parts of New Jersey are very high in regards to insurance, so that may be the reason for your high rates. At that price, though, I would surely shop around.

First strike, progressive sucks, do you have Erie Insurance in you state?, all insurance companies I ever dealt with never charge you for your first ticket, the one you were issued had no points at all, Progressive is known to have the highest and most riduculous policies in the insurance industry. I would dump them asap. With Erie they offer with a good record with them after five years, that your first at fault accident will be waived, and your premiums will not go up, and they only increase your premium upon your renewal date, if you have two tickets, not one. What I love about them is also they offer a ton of discounts, I park my ride for the winter months, so with a 90 day consecutive layup I get the limited use discount which in turn nets me another forty percent off my premiums. I pay with all my discounts and three cars, and a 19 year old college student on my policy, 567.00 with full coverage on just my 00SS for the year. I'm 39. Progressive wanted over 1,200.00 for just my SS, with not as many discounts, I always shop every renewal period, but cannot find anyone who can even come close to Erie's rates.

I switched to Geico from Progressive. Progressive sucks bad considering I was a policy holder for almost 6 years and my rates never went down and they were outrageously expensive. Now with Geico I pay $200 a month for full coverage on the SS and my 06 Hemi Ram.

Oh, and I'm only 23

**** Progressive.

My rates have never gone up with State Farm....only down. Even after having a ticket and/or claim here or there in my early days with them (never more than 1 issue per year though). I've been with SF since 1995.

I pay $680 every 6 months, full coverage, for BOTH my '02 & '98 Z28s ($320 for one, $360 for the other).

Either they did not run your MVR for your renewal policy or the ticket did not hit your MVR yet....
