I am in the AF right now. I have been in for four years. I had a bagged Toyota Tacoma with over 12K into it and sold it before basic. I regret it every day. But if I didn't sell it I wouldn't have my Camaro now! The point is to keep your car. That's a direct order trainee! Basic is a easy six weeks, trust me. Oh yeah, don't volunteer for anything in basic! Good luck.

+1 for putting it in storage. Im in Iraq right now, and my camaro is safley put away in storage. Dont sell it if your worried about it sitting around, and you will regret it later. Why not just bring it to your next duty station?

You will definitely kick yourself if you sell it just for the few short weeks of basic and whatever schooling you go to. Once you get stationed somewhere (unless overseas) you will really REALLY want some nice wheels, thats about all you've got especially living on base. When I got to san diego I flew home with a buddy and drove 26 hours back with my DD at the time, wasn't that bad. Home was CT btw, so it was a looooong drive at a good pace. I was definitely glad not to have to walk everywhere though.

Cover it or find a place to store it. Don't let pops drive too much though. He just might like it a little too much.

I dont know why your evn thinking about that. buy a nice car cover that will keep everything out for like 150-200 and your car will be nice and clean when you come back. its like a ziplock bag

I say keep the camaro and put it in storage. If you don't want to pay for storage than buy the best car cover you can find and cover it up. You will regret selling it

what he said, and also have your dad go out and start it once in a while to keep the springs from sticking or breaking and the seals in good condition.

I say keep your car...get a cover for it, they make really good ones for liek $300, and it's a great investment.

Don’t sell it! Especially if it is paid off. Let your dad watch it or store it for the 3 - 4 months your in tech school. If you can keep out of trouble in school you SHOULD be approved for RAP (recruiters assistance program) which gives you the opportunity to go home for a few weeks after training and work with your recruiter while collecting a pay check. After that you can drive your camaro to your 1st duty station. Too many people sell their toys before joining and end up regreting it.

There are a couple thing to look at here...
Seems like almost everything has been touched on the truck rear end, engine, tranny, etc.
Why did he have to replace the engine?

Another thing to look at is the tranny. I had a 96 GMC Sierra that only had 285/75r16s on it and the tranny went at 112k.

Also 96 was the first year of the vortec 5.7 in those trucks. If you look at any other trucks.

I can imagine the gas mileage would be terrible with that truck as well. The best I ever got with mine was 17 highway mpg which was also a reg. cab step side.

I dont know about you but if i just replaced the engine for 5500 I would keep it. Especially if I was only gonna sell it for 5k

Keep the camaro(better mpg) and just get a beater for winter. I just put some studded snow tires on my bird and its a champ in the snow.
