dude get an SOM. You will get so many compliments about it. You know how I know? Because I own one. I have a 2001 SOM WS6 6-speed. It has 37,xxx miles on it and I bought it almost 3 weeks ago for $16,600 at a dealership. And whenever I take it to the car gatherings or to the mall everyone always looks at my car. I see fine bitches everywhere breaking necks to see me in my SOM. yeah baby, its hot I know. but the manual transmission conversion in a car like that is not going to be easy. It's not undoable, but you might be better off using Autotrader, running a search for Orange TA's, than to buy one with the intention that you're going to swap trans.

i was recently faced with a similar conundrum... i ended up going with the M6 T/A and swapping the hood/wheels.. instead of the tranny.
i was going to buy an A4 SS and do the swap.... but i determined that buying the Nicest M6 car was key, and that the aesthetic mods were more within my budget.

No sense in buyin a SOM WS6 and then converting it. If your buyin it for value of being a WS6(which isnt much) you just lost it all by doin a swap. Seems much easier and not to mention cheaper to but a SOM T/A and buy he Hood, wheels and a WS7 badge on. Then you will also have left over money for some mods.

i have to agree that an auto isn't that bad. although ls1s are a blast to drive i wanted to concentrate on driving not shifting. plus mine is a DD so the A4 is nice. stall it and it will be fast and the car will do the work for you.

well guys found one in my area. 02 ws6 with 46,000 miles he wants 16k for it. so im gunna go check it out tomorrow and hopefully its a clean car. fuklly loaded 6-speed and its pewter!!!!! like my old one..wish me luck!

Just got back form lookin at the car and man was it horrible. the enigine bay was disgusting looked like it was never cleaned. the interior was ok but nothin compared to my old one and the body had alot of scratches and was webbin on the front bumper. The car drove ok but when i was on the throttle in 3, 4, and 5 gear there was a strange *** noise that i never heard befor in an ls1. talk about an abused ls1...so im guna have to pass on this one which sux cuz thats like the only one ill c in this area for another couple months or mayb even longer. oh well and the search continues

i agree it is definitely cooler to drive a 6 speed.
-- and it is sad that people shoot you down for driving an A4.
i know what you mean when they act like its suddenly not cool anymore, as if it were a v6. It will make you upset in a heartbeat, it kinda hurts your feelings a bit.
i think if there were two of me and one of me was in an A4 ws6, and the other was in an M6, the A4 would win. But I like the M6 because they are fun to drive around in, it's just my taste.

oh i see. well there are some guys on here that like A4's better. my uncle wouldn't want an M6, and the shop foreman at the ford dealership here has a 2002 ws6 A4. he wouldnt want an M6 either.
