Those of you are are stating that bolt-ons like a lid, cat-back, headers and pullies will reduce the fuel economy need to understand what pumping loses do to an engine. The harder the engine works to inhale through the stock intake and exhale through the stock exhaust, the more throttle opening is required to make the same power to the flywheel. Of course we're talking incremental amounts, but when you are holding steady at 65mph, the throttle is only open a small percentage. You only need The little bits all add up a couple mpg on a long trip, and a few HP when run unrestricted.

How does this method work. Whenever I do it, I end up shifting at 2400, bog to 1400, fight through third til about 2200 rpm, bog into fifth. When the engine is trying to fight through gear it uses more gas.

My method, light gas, shifting at 2000 or 2100 rpm. Ease right up to highway speed.

Best and simplest way. I just don't drive it. When I do I just keep out of the gas.

I have steeper gears so i guess i don't bog as much.....key is when you get into the next gear be easy on the gas and let it gradually move up the rpm band. If you give it alot of gas once you shifted it will tend to bog a little. I noticed if i keep rpms around 1500-1800 cruising i get better gas mileage.

Default My car

I got 29mpg driving from Fort Hood Texas to Fort Jackson South Carolina. I get 17-20 around town when I keep my foot out of it.

I had a 2002 SS for a while, with LT headers, Borla cat back, and unknown to me cam swap, it ran high 12's with no traction in the 1/4 and got 31mpg going to Fort Knox Kentucky from Fort Hood Texas.

I just purchased a 4 cylinder turbo daily driver so fuel mileage in the Camaro isn't a big concern anymore.

My main reason was to avoid racking up the miles on the Camaro but the extra mpg is a plus.
