Depends on your location. I'm in Florida right now and theres nothing around here. About two months ago I was in Texas looking for a complete LS1. It took me about two weeks but I found what I consider a good one for $2500, it's a 2001 with about 81,000 miles on it. Every accessory, bolt, bracket, wire came with it. Nothing cut or damaged. Wire harness never removed.
In that two weeks I did come across some real pieces of garbage for about the same price. Here are some pics of it http://jayscarsite.homestead.com/links.html they wanted $3000 for the whole thing with the transmission, but I already had one, got all the bellhousing bolts though.

So ranging from 2500 to 3 grand? What would be a good mileage to look for?

Recomend you look for a 2000+ as they have the better rod bolts, less chance of piston slap problems, and the 01 and 02 motors have the LS6 intakes. 70k or less would be best to ensure a long life (assuming some idiot hasn't beat the crap out of it). But if you figure you want to mod it and would end up rebuilding it in the near future anyway, a motor with 100k+ would be a lot cheaper and still have a lot of life left in it.

I found a entire 02 TA with 28k on it for $2700. It had a slight overheating problem.

you are asking a very incomplete question. If this motor is for a replacement of an existing bad ls1 motor, you have the extra parts you'll need that a crate motor won't come with. If you are doing an ls1 conversion in a non ls1 vehicle, you will need a lot of parts that the crate motor doesn't come with, or even a used motor, you have to make sure all the extras come with it, or add the cost of the extra parts to the total cost of the motor.

This link has a dealer locator box, enter your zipcode and you should find a local gm crate motor dealer.

Good point, I looked at a lot that didn't come with accessories or brackets and I couldn't find anyone that had brackets. They all said that stuff gets thrown on the ground and put in a recycle bin when the engines are pulled.

The one I ended up getting even had the belts still on it. They put the VIN on the reciept, it matches the VIN on the engine so if I wanted to verify mileage I could run a carfax.

Yeah im trying to do a v-6 2.8 to the LS1, I've been going to junk yards and such looking for camaro parts and stuff but no new cars. And to the quesiton on buying the motor, I have no experience in machine work I just need a motor ready to hook up and install.

If it was me Id try to find a 6.0 or even a 5.3... used LS1's are way overpriced...

get on ebay.. when I was looking for a motor for my 94 S10 I found a low mileage 5.3 and 4l60 with wiring computer and everything to go with it for $1200.. still had the serpentine belt on it and all..

but, if your dead set on a Ls1 my boss got a brand new LS6 longblock for around 3k not to long ago. I can find out where he got his
