I've got 2 thoughts on this matter:
* If you run at a track that requires mufflers (Englishtown Raceway Park requires mufflers on Friday night racing), They check all, and you won't be allowed to race, even when they're capped.
* With my old, low-tech, carbed 350, running in the high 11 range, I gained 3 tenths by dropping the exhaust behind the headers, and it didn't have cats to begin with. But guess what, that's the same amount gained when I switched to a Dynomax X-Flo. But that muffler is nasty-loud.
