my car only needs about $2000 in work to get it fully running and it will be a beast
im selling mine due to 4.50 premium prices, im a college student and i dont have my career just yet and my gf lives 40 miles away....one trip
so i have to let her go.
if you cant afford the car then get rid of it, im sure u can find another one in a couple years or so when everything is better

I'd keep the car and find a girlfriend within walking distance.......

Well my friend just sold his 2000 Z28 that had 7400 miles for exactly 16 grand. Does that tell you how hard times are? I wanted to kick him in the mouth when he did that, I would of given him 16,500 for it. Worst part was he was on his way to trade it in!!!! They only offered him 12k on trade in, but a guy at the dealership knew they were going to mark it up for 24 grand so threw him that offer.

Eventually the economy will get better. I have a friend who recently sold his WS-6. He bought a Prius( wife thought it was cute) and he hates it. I let him drive my SS a few days ago and he admitted to me that selling his car was one of the biggest mistakes he had ever made. These cars become a part of you, if that hasn't happened yet then you may not have a problem with it. I am about to by a geo metro to go back and forth to work in. I'll save the real car for nights and weekends. Good luck with your decision.

I think it's a bad time to sell any performance car in general, whereas economy car prices are rising steadily.
On the flip side though, for people who aren't worried about gas prices so much it's a great time to be buying an LS1 car, the prices on the higher mileage ones have dropped so much it's crazy.

gas prices are going to continue to go up. They may settle down in a year or so, but they will never go back down. This is for a few reasons; 1. anyone I have talked to in the army shares the same idea, 2. we are paying for 4.00/gal now so why would they sell it to us for less when they know we will pay more, 3. most countries across the world are paying much more than us even at 4.00/gal.
If you are owe less than 7k on it, I would save it. Maybe refinance it and get you a used clunker to get you to and from work, and just use your z for weekends and shows.
If you owe more than 7k I would say sell it or trade it in and cut your losses. We are never going to get what we want for our cars now. The majority of the people on the market for v8 or suv right now are those who don't worry about gas prices as most of us do, and aren't looking for a middle grade used performance car. With my expierence they are looking for corvette, charger, or newer mustangs(and the few saving for the camaro).

Yup, I would buy a cheap economical car to drive to work/to school/40 miles to see the girlfriend and hang on to the Z28 and drive it for leisure. If you let your insurance company know the cheap car is your daily driver your insurance shouldn't go up much at all and it might even go down, mine did by 9 cents lol!

The 16K offer would be "decent"

Yes its a bad time to sell cause fbody's have a stigmata to them that makes the general public(morons) think they are just like the old school muscle cars that ran on $0.25/gal gas and get 10mpg. If you have to sell it, then sell it ASAP, cause gas prices aren't going to go down and in a couple of years if you have your finances in order and can afford to live a little you should be able to find another one just as cheap. Or, you could still have fun and buy a cheap beater. I would get a light truck as a cheap beater cause they are nice to have anyway, like a little S10 5speed 4banger.
