I know it works, and it makes you quite a bit faster. Hell I know my times would be lower if I powershifted, but IMO it's not worth the risk of killing your trans just to be a little quicker. As far as your car running low 12's I would hope so, my first car ran 12.7 with a catback and DR's, and a friend of mine is running low 12's with just LT's and duals on stock tune, and neither were done by powershifting.

I've only broke 1 transmission in 10 years of drag racing and that was a t-5. It's not bad if you know what you're doing. Your friend has a stout stocker. Anyway, my point in this thread and the other is that I powershift @ 5800 because you're not making power past that point. When not powershifting you can go a little higher in the lower gears b/c of the gearing and reaching the revs so quickly. Powershifting doesn't make a huge difference but it do make a couple tenths to half a second difference if done right

When I was just bolt ons, I played around with shift points at the track a little bit. I found that shifting at 5900ish worked best for me. Every car is a little different though, so realize that this is something that you're going to have to personally experiment with.

Depends. The stock RPM gauge isnt on the money. So I always try to get it ready to shift at 5500 and by the time I shift Im sure Im at or close to 5800-6000 rpm. Im too scared to rip shift it.

JMO on the Powershifting thing in a car prepared for it.
This may be from the old school for some, but there was a time that if you ran your car for money, (not on the streets mind you or in and around the 5 boros of N.Y. of course...lol) or if you ran it in competition at the track, when you lined up "you drove it like you stole it", and powershifted just before you knew it stopped pulling..."you just know what you know" kind of thing (or at your engines known redline).
If you couldn't do that than don't race it, just enjoy it the way it feels good to you.
At the track a powershifted manual always runs a better time than when you drove the same car down the same track and just speedshifted it. But you just have to have the mind to do it.
That's why one person may get into someone else's car (Street, NHRA, etc.) and drive it faster than the cars owner who doesn't feel comfortable driving it like they hate it. Strictly an e.t. thing.
Heck could you imagine losing all your friends monies who bet on you because you didn't have the heart to shift that thing better than the guy in the next lane, because you were afraid you'd break something?....
Anyway in answer to your question, shift just before it stops pulling, and when you click that gear, you'll be in a better sweet spot, so you hopefully will be in the upper ranges of your torque area that will push you into your horsepower curve. Changing the cam along with appropriate valve springs from stock will of course change your curve and peak RPM. You'll feel it, and your timeslips will prove it to you. Or just having the money you won handed to you...oops, I mean trophy/purse at the track.

Agreed. But theres no way I could take any more than a tenth or two off my ET by powershifting. I shift pretty damn fast without it and if my rpms dont drop between shifts now, I dont think it would take that much time off.

Once in awhile problay not, its there for a reason. Would i do it all the time, NO i like my engine running in good shape. As for shifting i usually shift at 6k or less and avoid the rev limiter.

Yea I hate hitting the rev limiter. Unfortunately all I have to run locally is the 1/8th mile. I've stopped going b/c I'm on the rev limiter going thru the lights. It's pointless and I wish I would have went with a 3.90 gear. I'm just waiting until fall when a local 1/4 mile first opens. Maybe then I can go thru the lights in 4th around 61 or 6200.
