Default '02 Z06 or '69 Camaro LS1?

Which one would you choose and why? Because one of these will be my next car... IM ON THE FENCE!

- Well an '02 Z06 sure would be a fun car... currently unloading a FRC which is relatively similar to a Z06. The Z06 will handle far better than the '69 Camaro since they are both in different leagues as well as looks too.

- Obviously the '69 Camaro LS1 conv. is gonna be a project, and I don't mind that, have plenty of time and funds for it... and would basically take a roller or a fairly cheap running one and completely do up the suspension, interior, ect.... oh and ya the drivetrain

Both would eventually become a road race/strip/street track car.

the 69 has my vote... you see more c5's on the road than 1st gens. Plus c5's dont get that "OMG" factor as much as the older camaro's, but it always whatever makes you the happiest, they are both nice cars

Putting EFI LSX in an old school Camaro is pure genius! Plus you could do exactly what you are saying and upgrade EVERYTHING to make it a roadholding, street pounding, comfortable and reliable grand tourer/strip monster.

Not to take anything away from a C5Z, they are amazing cars! But I think the '69 would turn way more heads and be far more rewarding as a project. I'm also glad to hear you will actually be driving this car, hard! They were meant to be enjoyed on the road and strip. Take care and pride in it but for the love of God, DRIVE it hard! lol. You only live once.

Oh yeah, you gotta post pics of this thing!

Afterthought: Last summer I was getting my Z dynotuned and there was a black on black '69 Z/28 with pistol grip shifter, Mickey Thompsons so big they had their own gravitational field, and most importantly a gigantic twin turbo and loads of crome under the hood. The guy tuning my car said it had a large cube "LSX" shortblock and that he knows it will put 1,000+whp down. The walls were dark with tire soot and there were marbles on the floor... everywhere.

LSX in a 1st gen is HOT, i think you would be happier taking your time and building a 69 camaro then just going out and buying a Z06.

there is a guy around here( York, PA ) that did the exact same thing.. old school camaro, 69 to be exact, and slapped a LS1 in it. completely did the suspension, interior, every nut and bolt was replaced and the new technology is through out. it is bar far one of the best looking machines i have ever seen. the 69/LSX gets my vote. at the next car show i can bring the camera and sap some photos if you want

I'd have to say the '69. For a few reasons. First, the coolness factor is way higher, secondly the vehicle will appreciate, where as you'll lose money on the 'vette, and thirdly, you already have a 'vette, try something new

no comparison there, an LS powered 1st gen goes UP in value, while any C5 drops in value and are too common. The musclecar will get tons more attention at the cruise-in.

69 LS1, make sure you have the bankroll for it. Make a parts list with prices, then multiply by 2. That's how projects go.

Ask me how I know.

68 camaro with lsx

(I think the 67-68 body is much cleaner looking, but if 67 ditch the vent windows)

I see at least 10 Vettes a day, and unless its a C6 Z06 don't even look twice. Pretty much everything for the first gen will be cheaper than C5 parts, and if you know what you're doing you make the camaro handle as well or out handle the C5. Plus there's nothing like cruising around in an old school car. You can actually see over the front of the nose of the car for one!

Plus you'd be amazed at the attention they get. I drive my car every single day and prolly give more people whiplash than Six Flags and Busch Gardens combined

Start with a nice solid roller/driver car and it will be easy and not as expensive as you'd think. Plus you get to sell all the stock stuff to fund the aftermarket stuff.

LS1 Camaro for sure. I want to do that some day when I can afford it. Basically the only thing I want form 69 is the body. Everything else would be new school technology. One of the sexiest cars ever made+drives like, and competes with todays top dollar cars=automotive ecstacy.

ya looks like it's an overwhelming defeat... figures though with it being such a rearity.

well looks like I'm gonna be in for a long haul summer and winter possibly. Been searching for just rollers and with my funds right now I should come out even although there's always gonna be problems, so like said, add a lot more money into the equation. still have to figure what routes for suspension, etc. but do know I just want to put a LS1 346ci. bare block and build her up. not take the idea away from 4th gen. great "LS" series. with a nice hefty T56.... oh this will be fun. if anyone wants to fund it I accept paypal

...will put up a progress thread once and if I actually follow through with this, although pro-touring.com has like 5 of these running... but with my father being a mechanical engineer and using his garage it should go along pretty nicely

Out of all the stupid car poles I've seen on here lately this has got to be one of the best and at that hardest to pick. Ever since I went to a car show when I was a young buck starting out in the car enthusiast world I saw a 67 resto camaro and fell in love. I was with 3 other guys, 2 of which were allot older and have built numerous muscle cars. To say the least we all voted for it.

I've told myself since than that I will do a ground up on a 67 or so when I am older and have more patience since I don't like any downtime at all, etc.

I too however love the Z06's and almost bought one last year. I am kicking myselt for it now but know its a matter of time until I get one.

Both of these cars are my dream cars and if possible I'd have them both. No others but pimped to the nines inside and out.

2003 Z06 and 67 Camaro for this guy.

If you must know I voted for the 69 and more so for a retro build
