Default 6th gear shift

I was just wondering at what speed do you shift into 6th gear just whenever your crusing around, i shift at about 60 - 65 when im just crusing to save some gas, just wondering when everyone else does?

I have a 4:10 out back, so when I am cruising around and know that I am on a fairly long stretch where the limit is 45, I go to 6th at around 50 mph. RPM's are around 1500 @ 50. I could probably go into 6th @ lower speeds if it wasn't for the cam setup b/c if I do the car will surge a little.

I've got 4.56's in my car, if I'm just putting around I'll shift into 6th around 45-50mph. Any slower than that with my cam will lug the engine bad.

shifting at 60-65 is not gas saving mode, i shift at 45-50, haha. i usually start in first, shift to fourth at 2500 rpms, then 5th at 1500, then 6th at 1500 (45 mph). that gets me an average of 20 mpg with some spirited driving on every tank

6th is highway gear for me. If i'm not on the highway, there's no use going into it. I hit 5th at 45mph, and won't use 6th until probably 55. However, I abuse the hell out of the other gears. Whenever I have to slow down but not stop, I'll go into 4th at 20mph and go from there.

That gets me 20mph going to and from work, 17 miles one way, and involving lots of stoplights and traffic.

With 3.90 gears, I shift to 6th at 45... with the original gears, I shifted at 50. I don't have a huge cam though, still plenty of low end from my LPE GT-11.

Factory manual said to shift to sixth at either 49 or 50 (depending on what section you looked at the chart in).

I wonder if some vette guys will post up, they have a MPG doowhackey in their machines, don't they? There is always that debate about weather going into 6th is beneficial at such a low speed. I used to do that, at 50mph put it in 6th with the 4.10s, now I don't bother.

been dring my Z for almost a year...and ima tell ya 1st to 4th does help(city drivin)....however if u shift to 6th before 50-55 your doing more harm than good...unless u have a feather light foot and only care to gain 1mph every 5-10sec than dont bother shiftin to 6th until 50-55...your pcm is determining throttle position(and Mass air), which at low low rpms(6th gear around 1200-1500) will demand alittle more fuel to compensate for the load....ask me how i know
