giving your car gas in order to match the rpms that the car will be at, at a certain speed, when you drop it into a lower gear. Example: You are in 5th gear going 50mph at 1,700 rpms. You want to make the shitty mustang driver next to you wish he had an LS1 so you decide you are going to drop it from 5th into 2nd and give it hell. You know that at 50 mph, being is second gear would put you around 5,000 rpms persay so you rev it to 5,000 rpms before you throw it into 2nd so that the rpms are matched and it doesnt kill your tranny and drivetrain as much. Understand now?

Now, when the clutch is in the car is in neutral so why cant u be in 2nd gear and then rev and then let the clutch out? isnt that still rev matching? or is it bad having the rpms low and putting it in 2nd then rev matching? sorry if this is confusing.

Like pitbull is trying to say, Is it better to rev match before you put it in second or after you put it in second or does it matter??? As long as you rev match before letting out the clutch.

No i mean like is it bad on the tranny if i put the clutch in move shifter to 2nd while still holding clutch then rev match and release clutch? see the shifter is in 2nd while the rpms are down but clutch is pressed still, is that bad? so i push clutch move shifter then hit the gas to rev match then release clutch, is that bad?

If you double clutch properly, you'll be even faster and get a better launch from speed
1. clutch in
2. shift out of higher gear into neutral
3. clutch out
4. rev match for lower gear
5. clutch in
6. select lower gear
7. clutch out
If you practice, you can do that in about 1 second, and you'll have a perfect launch at any speed - no bad sounds and no bucking, just straight acceleration.

I never rev it before I switch gears. I've got it down to what gear I can go into at what speeds. Otherwise you will hit your rev limiter...GUILTY. If i'm going 50 and i'm in sixth I need to be down to 3rd. I could go down to 2nd if I want to be at 5k rpms. But I always go from 3500-4500 rpms. Now when I in sixth I shift down to 4th and then 3rd. I don't know if that makes the switching gears any less harder on the tranny. But I don't "rev" when downshifting. I push on the gas just enough and ease out of the clutch at the same time. 65mph is my MAX speed when downshifting to 3rd. I can put it into 3rd then stomp on it and let out of the clutch fast like I was shifting normally.
