How much RWHP with DR's in an M6 will it take to destroy a rear?

I still think stock gears with DR's even with 400-450 RWHP the stock rear will hold up in most cars. I just base this on the fact of all the ones I have seen and heard about (I have done it with 2 cars myself now with no issues). I am sure there are those out there that have broken them with less, but generally speaking I think they will hold up until you go with aftermarket steeper gears, or go with slicks.

Mine is still going strong, the last 60 I pulled a 1.81 but it does make a considerable mount of noise now. I think its pretty close to its last leg, but I also dont dump the clutch. I slip it out of the hole.

stock rears can hold big power. I know someone with a lt1 set up just like yours with 590rwhp and hes still on the stock rear end with stock gears and its been like that for 3 years however the car does not get abused so it can be done. Its also been down the track quite afew times but he dumps the clutch at 2k instead of 5k like most

The main key to preserving the rear like everyone else has said, no crazy launches. The next biggest thing is hard shifting or powershifting. 10 bolts will handle power but not when it they are shocked all of a sudden. They don't seem to like that at all. Going from 1-2 gear, but with the power your making I would watch 2-3 also. Just put the tires on to keep traction. I have the same setup you do and that's why I got the S60, just in case. I've blown my 10 bolt twice without the H/C, but that was my fault because I beat the hell out of it. My goal is to see 10.9 with a t56 in the 99TA.

Why would you think that? I am not saying its stronger than the 9, I am saying it will handle most all power levels effectivly (up to 1000 RWHP) without having to go to the 9. How many people really need a rear that will handly 1200 RWHP? Not me. And my guess is, not many others either.
For every one person you can find that breaks a 12 bolt with way less than 1000 RWHP, I could probably find 20 others that have 800-1000 RWHP with their 12 bolt's that have had no issues for years. We may just have to agree to disagree on this one, as I have no doubts the 12 bolt is a fine unit that will hold 99.9% of the guys running up to 1000 RWHP.
I really don't want to scew this thread this way and have it be an off topic thread. Please, if you want to discuss this further, start another thread, and it can be discussed there.
BACK TO THE ORIGINAL POST AGAIN,
It seems there are more out there than I figured who thinks running DR's will break a stock rear. Perhaps its just that I have seen the stock rear hold countless DR runs in M6 cars and never seen one go out. Maybe I am seeing the guys do it that have the better luck than the guys who break.
In either event, I will be attempting to try my Formula with DR's at the track some time. I was going to try today, but due to complications with some DR's I will be running the street tires instead.

Let me tell you that in a all out street car the 12 bolt will be fine but if you take it to the track more than the street it will break. I have a 12 bolt with a spool and 4.33 gears and a full slick. It only lasted about 20 passes of 1.45-1.47 60ft.'s and the gears blew apart this past weekened at pinks all out.Not where you want to break. I have to switch to a set of pro gears which are for drag race use only and can't be driven on the street again. A 9" may have taken the track abuse but who knows. DR tires on the other hand may help it last longer but I'm at the level where I want the best tire I can to go as quick as I can. I launch at 6000rpm on spray (570-600rwhp depending on the jets)if your wondering
