I use both. I relied on just the e-brake with my old car and it ended up rolling into another car in a parking lot. There's nothing more powerful to hold your car than first gear

Just the brake. Due to starting it in gear one day and forgetting, before I turn the key I wiggle the shifter to make sure I'm in neutral. Not much feels more awkward than leaving it in gear and forgetting.
When I visit my Dad in PA I put it in gear+brake, there a tractor, and a 80's Subaru have both managed to roll out of the driveway, down the hill through the field and smash into the woods.

i tend to only use the e-brake now. i let my car sit for about 5 months without driving and only had it in gear. for the first couple of weeks when i did start to drive her again, for whatever reason the shifter had a difficult time staying in 2nd and 4th and kept popping out. since the car can sit for days, weeks or months at a time, i just use the e-brake. havent had that problem since.
quick amusing story. my old truck was had an automatic so i never used the e-brake. one snowy/icy day at work i parked in a spot on a slight incline. an hour later my co-worker came in and told me my truck was rolling out of its spot, but he was perplexed the driver's side wheel was spinning in the opposite direction as the car rolls. apparently i parked on a sheet of ice and driver's side was on the ice but the passenger's side was on asphalt. my truck rolled/skidded about 15 feet until it gained traction again.

Both. My dad just did ebrake and one day his truck was in the middle of our street! Thing rolled all the way down the driveway and didn't hit anything, settled into the road without going into the neighbors lawn.
