Default ls2 or ls6

which engine really produces more power from factory the ls6 or the ls2. and which would be better for just a street car in a fbody.

yea, they are pretty close as far as power, but you get more displacement with a ls2 (6.0 vs 5.7) so it tends to have an advantage when modding. I think i read somewhere that while the ls6 was rated at 405 in the z06 and the ls2 was rated at 400, the ls2 would outperform the ls6, because power under the curve. not sure how true that is.

I have a bone stock 04 ls6 in my Monte(just shorty headers and a slowhawk tune) and it put down 345/330 hp at the rear wheels. That's about 410 at the flywheel.

I believe the dyno was a Dynojet( not sure though). As far as the ls6 i believe you would just need to retune it. Any questions just pm slowhawk( all he works on are ls engines)

LS2 has the advantage of a bigger 4.00 bore but is intake restricted even with a larger 90mm tb
LS6 has the advantage of a better breathing LS6 intake
both use the same cylinder heads casting.
so the comprimise would be to use the ls2 with ls6 intake and 80-85mm tb
imo

You're saying the LS6 Intake out-flows the LS2?

correct, the ls6 has been known to outflow the ls2 even with the 78mm tb
vs. the 90mm tb for the ls2

hes right the LS2 intakes pretty much are no better than a oem 98-01 LS1 intake ( 2002 had LS6 Intake ) however it does have a 90mm TB stock which is good and bad I suppose. LS6 intake is the way to go if your trying to decide between the two. however I wouldnt run either on my ms4 car

01-02 fbodys were equipped with ls6 intake, not just the 02
