Default Need help finding owner of a car

Long story short, there has been a car across the street from my house at a body shop for 6 years. Hasnt moved, and it has grass growing through it.

I stopped by the other day, and asked the guy working if he was willing to sell it. He said it wasnt his to sell, and if I could find the owner he would probably sell it. He said he lost the owners information and cant contact him. He let me get the Vin number and told me good luck finding him.

How do I find the owner of a car with the Vin number?

PS. Its a 93 RX7, and I have a spare LS1 laying around

Have you tried the Department of Motor Vehicles?

No, I have been told I need to either be the shop that the car is at, a law enforcement officer, a creditor, or the actual owner of the car to get information from the vin number.

And have to bring proof of such.

Damn, I don't think I know anyone with any connections in NC. Let me think about it and I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

hmm not sure if NC has the same laws as texas but if they are the same.

the owner of the shop can fill for a title on it since it has been in his lot for years now and if he can do that well then you can just buy it from the shop owner

I dont know about your area, but cars that have been sitting for a while without a current registration where I live are considered eyesores and illegal. Maybe you could have an officer run it and help you out. Just a suggestion!

The owner of the shop could go to the DMV and request a lien Sale for the vehicle.
