Keep it stock looking except for the wheels. Nothing too flashy.

Here is mine.

When I get back from my deployment, she'll get some strano/UMI suspension work and that damn SLP grille.

Get a color theme going on. I chose to go the light blue on black look, with tint, black sail panel, black headlights etc and black chrome c5 wheels. May help you out:

I went with the less is more theme on the SS...with the only deviation being the billet grille with the old school SS emblem.

On a Z28 I would go with a flat berger panel with chrome inserts, SS spoiler, Sunnoco hood, Black Billet Grille....and your wheels of choice. I for one think simple clean un-cluttered works best on all camaros...

Well originally i wanted to put a couple of those big round mufflers on it, and a big aluminum wing ( secured to the existing spoiler) Some enkei wheels and give it a multi-colored neon paint scheme.........

Well i ponied up and bought a BRAND NEW set of SS ten spokes with BFG KDW's. The guy is a GM engineer and had a ton of 1LE parts. Get this, he just sold his 2002 B4C with 6 miles for $18000. He had it brought to his house with a car hauler brand new. I felt really bad for the guy his wife just got cancer and he was liquidating a bunch of fourth gen parts he had gathered. If i had more money i would have a brand new set of Konis, and full 1LE suspension but couldnt bring myself to do it.

is there that big of a difference in the 1LE, what all is it just different springs and sway bars?

I have a pewter 01 z-28 and I am thinking a mecham ram air hood with some black and chrome rims and that would probably be about it as far as exterior mods go. I would like to differentiate my car from others, but it just seems as though no matter what you do someone else already has it. I don't think that anyone should make an SS clone out of their z-28. I have been wanting an LS1 since I learned to drive like six years ago and I am proud to have a z-28. A really good friend of mine here has a white SS with black rims (he is on here as outlawfireman, if anyone cares) and I will admit it looks sexy, but I wouldn't give up my z-28. Good luck with your car man, let me know how it ends up.

The only thing wrong with the stock appearance of a Z28 are the wheels. 16x8s are too small, and the split 5-spokes of the '00+ years look like total ****. Get a nice set of wheels on that car, and it'll totally change the look.

When it comes to things like aftermarket headlights, clear corners, most aftermarket hoods & grilles, etc.; I'm not a fan. The stock SS stuff looks nice, but there's nothing rare or special about an LS1 SS car, so you're not really accomplishing much by building a clone IMO. Actually, at this point I see far fewer nice clean Z28s than SSs. Either because people beat the Zs to ****, or they made SS clones out of them.

Here is my mostly stock '98 car:

Wheels are 17x9" SS/ZR1 style in chrome with a 50mm offset, bowtie centercaps, black lug caps, and 275mm BFG KDW rubber.
Only other appearance mods include the exhaust and black urethane CAMARO insert letters out back.
Some people would find this boring, but I really like the look of these cars as GM built them.
I think as these cars age and become few and far between, people will better appreciate clean, stock examples.

I really can't stand flat hoods that have no effect to them. Especially on a "sports" car. The SS scoop just changes things so much. It should have been for all cars.

Also, I agree, wheels definitely change everything. Almost like a new car

Here is my thought on that....

The SS hood looks nice and aggressive, but gives the effect of making the car look slightly taller/skinnier from the front, since your eyes are directed to the middle of the hood.
The Z28 hood isn't totally flat, it does have some nice contours though it doesn't stand out as much as the SS scoop, but tends to make the car look a bit lower and wider.
The other problem with the SS hood is that it doesn't have a center crease continuing from the bumper cover, so you go from a creased bumper cover to an abrupt flat section of hood.
Makes it look like an afterthought. So they both offer advantages and disadvantages, IMO.

Here's a great pic that shows how well the Z28 hood flows with the body lines of the car.
Once you add the SS scoop and lose the center crease, things just don't flow quite as well IMO:
